3 Industrial Revolution – switching from an agricultural economy to an industrial economy. Industrial Revolution = Industrialization Clip Questions: 1. What led to the Industrial Revolution? 2. How did it change Europe?

4 Key Question #1: What caused the Industrial Revolution to start in the United Kingdom (England) 1. Natural Resources – England has coal, peninsulas, rivers, and iron.

5 Key Question #2 – What effects did the Industrial Revolution have on Europe? 1. Colonization  European countries invaded other continents to take natural resources and set up new markets. Task – Sketch a picture of a the reasons for colonization 1. Take natural resources 2. set up new markets.

6 Key Terms A. Colony – a country or region that is taken over and controlled by another country.

7 B. Mercantilism - An economic policy based on a state monopoly over trade and an attempt to transfer wealth from colonies to the parent country 1. Country A takes over country B. 2. Country A steals all of country B’s natural resources. 3. Country A takes Country B’s natural resources back to Country A and makes products in their factories. 4. Country A takes the finished products back to Country B and forces them to buy them.
