TURKEYGREAT BRITAIN Schooling is compulsory for Turkish children from the age of 7 to 14 English children from the age of 5 to 16 The academic yearlate September or early October and extends through to June from September to July The Education System in Turkey and Great Britain

Music and drama play outside the classroom. UK The majority are boarding schools; children may spend one or two weekends per term at home (i.e. children from overseas, with guardian families) - these weekend breaks are called exeats; EFL departments for overseas children.

The National Curriculum in UK is divided into 4 Key Stages, depending on pupils' ages and subjects: Key Stage Age (years) Description 15 - 8 All subjects in the National Curriculum are studied except a modern foreign language 28 - 11 311 - 14 Core subjects: Maths / English / Science / one foreign language / technology. In addition students must study at least one humanity subject - geography or history, and at least one arts subject - art, physical education or music. Depending on the school's timetable, they may study both humanities and all arts subjects, if they wish. 414 - 18Public examinations: GCSE and GCE "A" Level

UK Results of all the above examinations are normally published in the third week of August.

Students earn places in university through a two-phase examination (OYS and OSS) held yearly by the Centre for Student Selection and Placement. Many students spend a year studying at private institutions (ozel dershaneler) in order to pass these exams successfully. For foreigners who would like to study in Turkey, there is a special examination (YUS) in both English and Turkish,

All applications should be received by UCAS between September and mid-December for places for courses starting the following October. The Centre for Student Selection and Placement (OSYM) is a central agency which acts on behalf of Turkish universities and colleges of higher education. All applications are placed by OSYM in September for places to courses starting the following October. Universities are largely autonomous and are regulated by the Higher Education CouncilHigher Education Council
