1 Protection for Indonesian overseas workers Action Plan Presented By : Azhar habib (KSPI) & Suherman (KSBSI) Seoul/Republik of Korea south, 2 Desember 2010

2 Background  Estimated 6-7 Million Indonesian overseas workers employed in more than 20 countries  Majority dear working in middle East, Malaysian, Hongkong where they are Employed in informal sectors (Domestic workers, construction, plantation,etc.  They got low wages and less social security because low- semi skilled workers  While other Indonesian overseas workers working in Japan and Republic of Korea getting better welfare due to being Employed in formal sectors such as nurses in hospital, Industrial sectors, etc P

3 Problems coming to surface  Legal aspect  Inspection  Bilateral agreement  One Stop Management  Law Enforcement  Social Protection

4 Target Group & Parties Involved  Trade Unions ( Confederations ) and Migrant Workers Unions  Civil Societies, Religious Group Leader  Non Govt Organization ( Ecosoc Insitute, APIK Legal Aid )  Government Institutions ( Manpower Dept, Minister of Women Empowerment, National Placement and Protection of MW, Human Right Commission, Foreign Affair Dept, Parliement, etc

5 Objectives  Ratification of ILO C 143 & C 97 are mostly supported.  Amending Migrants Act should be implemented  Protections and Improvements on migrant rights are more prioritized.  Mismanagement and disorientation on migrants issues are reduced  Law enforcements should be lifted up

6 Activities  Design and sending proposal to ILO Office for financial and technical assistance.  Renewal strong coalision of Trade Union and NGO and Civil Societies  Action done by coalision (TU, NGO, Civil Society ) on Migrant Day Celebration on 18 December  Regular actions based on time lime ( December 2010 ~ Mid 2011 )  Lobby to stake holders  Campaign to Media, Press Release, Focus Group Discussion, Seminars, Demonstration, etc
