1 LEGABEX 2 ND Term SY 2009 -2010 DLS – St. Benilde

2 Why do export? Definition -  The term "export" is derived from its conceptual meaning as to ship the goods and services out of the port of a country.  The seller of such goods and services is referred to an "exporter" who is based in the country of export whereas the overseas based buyer is referred to as an "importer".

3 Why do export?  Since it is basically an exchange of capital, goods, and services across international borders or territories, it is also referred to as International trade.  International trade is a major source of economic revenue for any nation that is considered a world power. Without international trade, nations would be limited to the goods and services produced within their own borders.

4 Philippine Trade Policies  1987 Constitution:  ARTICLE II DECLARATION OF PRINCIPLES AND STATE POLICIES PRINCIPLES Section 7. The State shall pursue an independent foreign policy. In its relations with other states, the paramount consideration shall be national sovereignty, territorial integrity, national interest, and the right to self- determination.

5  Section 9. The State shall promote a just and dynamic social order that will ensure the prosperity and independence of the nation and free the people from poverty through policies that provide adequate social services, promote full employment, a rising standard of living, and an improved quality of life for all.

6  Section 19. The State shall develop a self-reliant and independent national economy effectively controlled by Filipinos.  Section 20. The State recognizes the indispensable role of the private sector, encourages private enterprise, and provides incentives to needed investments.

7  Section 1. The goals of the national economy are a more equitable distribution of opportunities, income, and wealth; a sustained increase in the amount of goods and services produced by the nation for the benefit of the people; and an expanding productivity as the key to raising the quality of life for all, especially the underprivileged.

8  The State shall promote industrialization and full employment based on sound agricultural development and agrarian reform, through industries that make full of efficient use of human and natural resources, and which are competitive in both domestic and foreign markets. However, the State shall protect Filipino enterprises against unfair foreign competition and trade practices.

9 In the pursuit of these goals, all sectors of the economy and all region s of the country shall be given optimum opportunity to develop. Private enterprises, including corporations, cooperatives, and similar collective organizations, shall be encouraged to broaden the base of their ownership.
