IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 And Compliance Recommendations…

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Operations often available as “Self-Service” style app… E.g. Patch Install Application

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Or as Action within particular resource application, e.g. Install from within Patches application…

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 “Start Centers” and capabilities…  Focused (but customizable) initial log-in panels based on these roles… –Provisioning Administrator –Deployment Specialist –Configuration Librarian –Compliance Analyst –Automation Package Developer  Capabilities of Start Centers… –Specific/most-frequently used application links –“Key performance indicators” –“Result sets”/lists and links to particular items –Data model object finder is an example of this –Favorite Reports –Recent tasks –My non-compliant computers –Etc. –“Inbox” and Bulletin Board

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Start Centers: At-a-glance view by Role Favorite Applications for Patch, SW depl.,Agent install, discovery, etc. Role Drill Down cap. New version of object finder…

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Start Centers: At-a-glance view by Role Role Drill Down/quick link capability KPIs Favorite Reports

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Example link-thru, non-compliant computer… Launches the specific app/object, and then provides quick access to recommendations for resolving non-compliance…

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Example of a running a favorite report—Task Summary… (Be sure to turn off pop-up blocker while running reports.)

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Basic usage of the Tpae UI… Quite a bit of the UI is intuitive, but there are some key things that need to be learned… Higher-level functions and navigation…  Go To menus  Start Centers (covered earlier and tomorrow)  Reports menu  Web Replay Application UI and controls…  Detail and Lookup links –Provides context-based mechanism for finding and/or creating related artifacts –Provides “breadcrumbs” for return context  Filter and sort capabilities –Uses “QBE” (Query By Example) or SQL filters –Column Sort –Advanced Search –Saved Queries  Select Action menu –Provides menu of the context-sensitive actions that are available within an application  Alt-F1 while within data fields will often provide context-specific information on the field

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Go To and Reports Menus…

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Web Replay… Click the Web Replay header bar link to enable Web Replay… Which then enables the Web Replay panel below… Click the “Running a Scenario” scenario (may need to filter on the “Introduction” category first.) More on Web Replay later in the week…

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Filter Capabilities… “Power Applications” usually have a List panel that provides these, but are available in various other contexts too… Query by Example… In this example, looking for computers with “kr” or “en” anywhere in their names. The QBE is: kr,en Just hit Enter within any field to trigger a search, or click the Binoculars. Then click the underlined link to jump to the details tabs. (Or select a row and click a tab) Enter “multi-select” mode via “Select Records” checkbox or use filter and then Select Action to apply action to multiple records.

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Sorting and exporting a table… Many tables can be sorted on within particular columns (not available with all columns.) Just click the column header if it’s a “link”. Click it again to reverse the sort. Click it again to disable the sort… Tables can usually be exported as spreadsheets or csv files. Just click the download link:

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Other navigation elements for tables… There are several other navigation elements in the header for most tables… Filter—toggles the filter row Binoculars—refreshes the filter Clear filter fields Next and Previous row Next and Previous page

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Advanced Searching Many application List panels support Advanced Search (available in some other contexts as well.) E.g. from the Provisioning Computers application…

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Saved/Default Queries In most applications providing a List panel, it’s possible to save and use a query as a default one… And then this becomes the default query for the provisioning computers application…

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Lookups and Detail Links… Many fields within applications provide “lookups” and detail link menus. These are typically mechanisms to be able to find and/or create the related items and fill in the blanks. Lookups look like a magnifying glass and typically bring up a searchable list. Once you select an item, it’s filled into the field. For example… Detail links (Arrows) have one or more menus which may include lookups, jumps to related applications or other items…

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 “Breadcrumbs” A key navigation element in many applications is the usage or “breadcrumbs” while navigating to related applications. This helps maintain context while creating or searching related artifacts. For example with the previous Locations detail example, the user can either search or jump to and create a “Location”… And once the related item is created or selected he can “Return With Value” or just “Return” (no value selected.) A “breadcrumb” list in the lower left corner shows the context and allows jumping back to the parent application in the stack…

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Application Toolbars Many applications have typical Toolbar icon/action links directly in the header: There are a number of standard toolbar buttons such as: Add Save Clear Changes Previous Next And any number of other application-specific buttons These often have flyover text describing the button and also a keyboard shortcut.

IBM Software Group | Tivoli software © 2008 IBM Corporation Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 Select Action Menu In most “Power” applications, the Select Action menu is the place to go to perform additional actions related to items in a List or for a particular object. For example from the Provisioning Computers application…
