1 Rankings or Classes BY: TRISTAN

2 System Life in medieval castle was governed by the pyramid-shaped Feudal system. This was based on the belief that the land belonged to god – but that the kings, ruled by Divine Right, managed the land and used it has he wished The king needed the good will and support of the nobles and knights so they granted them land in return for their military services.

3 Royalty Kings- A king ruled large areas of land/country by divine right. To protect his land from invasion, the king gave parts of it to local lords, who were called vassals. In return, his vassals promised to fight to defend the kings land. Queens- they were the wife of kings and took the place of the king if he dies in battle until the son becomes 18

4 Royalty continued Prince- A price was the son of the king and queen and would take become a king someday Princess- A female to marry a prince and become a queen someday Regent- a person who takes over the power of the king while the king is in battle.

5 Clergy Pope- A pope is a bishop of rome, the pope was rich because he had the people who attended church there pay him to repay the sins they have done Bishop- a bishop was the 2 nd lead of the church, he served under the pope

6 Tradesmen, merchants Moneyer- a monyer is a person licensed by the crown to strike coins. He received the dies from the crown and was allowed to keep 1/240 of thee money coined for himself Master craftsman- a person who practices or is highly skilled in a craft Bowyer- a person who makes bows

7 Tradesmen/ merchants continued Fletcher- a person who makes arrows Merchant- a merchant was an owner of a business the mostly commonly traded salt, iron, and textiles Peddler- a merchant that traveled from town to town selling stuff

8 Entertainers Jongleur- a group of people such as musicians, acrobats, jugglers, and clowns who usually from the lower class, who entertained with tales of epic battles heroes Bard- a minstrel or poet who glorified the virtues of the people and his chieftains

9 Entertainers continued Gleeman- a composer of songs Mummers- actors who re-enacted religious plays. Also used to refer to a masked or costumed merrymaker or dance especially at a festival

10 peasantry Cottager- a peasant of lower class who owned a cottage, but owned little land Peasant- farm labors of low social rank ; coarse, unsophisticated, boorish, uneducated person of little financial means
