It’s hard to believe that it is May already, and our annual June Picnic is just around the corner. We’ll be at Casa de Blacklock, June 11 th for a wonderful day of food and companionship. Jaclynn and I just this returned home from the Cali Rally Caravan, and I can report that it was wonderful! Abe and Veronica did a fantastic job of organizing the Club Caravan. We all met at Flying Flags RV Resort in Buellton on Monday. That evening we shared dinner together at our campsite. The food and company were the best. Tuesday was an unplanned day. Jaclynn and I went to Solvang that day and enjoyed the sights. Wednesday we all went to Breakfast together at “Ellen’s Danish Pancake House” next to the resort. That afternoon Abe gave us a tour of the parks Airstream Rentals that he consulted with Flying Flags on, and that evening we all went to a great Brew Pub for dinner. On Thursday morning all 12 rigs set off together for the Cali Rally in Santa Margarita, arriving two hours later at the Rally site. We were the first group to arrive that day, and set our Airstreams up in the field before lunch. Our stay at Flying Flags resort was a great start to the Cali Rally Caravan.

“Great start to the Rally, at Camatta Ranch” The Cali Rally was a very well organized and run event. The first night there was a hamburger and franks dinner with all the fixings, beer to sample and entertainment by Tennessee Jim. The brew was the same excellent microbrew that we had had the day before from the Brewery in Buellton. That evening was a fun night and a great start to the Rally.

Friday started off with breakfast served for all attendees and morning of light yoga led by Juliet, and for those interested a presentation on using Ham Radio led by Eric McHenry. Later in the morning there was a very interesting hayride tour on the ranch and its unusual animals. After lunch there was a session on planting succulents with Yvonne and Solar seminar by Jim Polk and Ralph Perri. That night there was a Chili Cook-off for dinner and line dancing instruction. I am not very good at line dancing but it was fun to try.

Saturday started off with a Cowpoke Dutch-Oven Breakfast and more light yoga. After breakfast there was a swap meet and another ranch tour for those who had not gone the day before. After lunch there was a demonstration of Drones, a presentation on “Glamping”. Later that afternoon there was Archery instruction and targets to shot at. I hadn’t shot a bow since I was a teen, but with a little instruction I had a good time and even hit the target almost every time. That evening we were all trolleyed to the main ranch area where we had wine tasting and BBQ of grass- fed trip tip and chicken hosted by Camatta Ranch. Wally B and Cali Rally All-stars provided the night’s entertainment to the enjoyment of all. There was western dancing and great food, all-in-all a great evening! On Sunday we all headed home after a really great weekend rally. My thanks go out to Region 12 for organizing and putting on this event. Next year 2017 the Cali Rally will be in Mariposa, CA. Mark your calendars May 4-7. look forward to participating again.
