History of ASHT “The Original Six” In 1977, four occupational therapists and two physical therapists envisioned an organization devoted to the advancement of hand therapy practice 37 years later, ASHT is the only association to collectively meet the needs of hand therapy practitioners ASHT now represents 3,200+ members

Mission To build and support the community for professionals dedicated to the excellence of hand therapy. Vision To be the recognized leader in advancing the science and practice of hand therapy through education, advocacy, research and clinical standards. ASHT

Our Focus Actively advocate on current issues –Reimbursement, L-codes, G-codes, ICD-10, competitive bidding, payor policy changes, legislative concerns Collaborate with AAHS, AOTA, APTA, ASSH, HTTC to disseminate information that affects your daily practice Provide opportunities for professional growth

Our Focus Provide avenues for leadership and professional networking Promote research and education facilitating evidence-based practice related to hand therapy Monitor for changes in legislation and healthcare policy at the local & national levels

The ASHT Board of Directors approved a plan for merging the Practice and Legislation and Reimbursement Divisions into the Practice Division, effective January 1, 2016 The new division will be organized into three committees: Advocacy, Federal and State Regulations and Practice Management The Practice Standards Committee will move to the Education Division Division Merger
