3 COMMUNITY WARDEN SCHEME Government Perspective Wardens ‘can have a beneficial impact on the sense of well-being and confidence of residents in many disadvantaged neighbourhoods as well as contributing to reductions in rates of recorded crime and the fear of crime.’

4 COMMUNITY WARDEN SCHEME Based in Tyne Dock Flats £370,000 matched funding NWU & NRF Fixed term until March 2004 Recognised by NSWP as one of most successful in the country 10 wardens, 2 team leaders and 1 supervisor

6 COMMUNITY WARDEN SCHEME Duties Patrolling Tackling quality of Life Issues Crime Prevention 12p.m. to 11 p.m. – 362 days each year Dealing with low level disorder Develop relationships with community groups, residents and young people Victim Support Compliment the police force

11 COMMUNITY WARDEN SCHEME ACHIEVEMENTS Security Locks to bungalows Planted area to deter football Started a cub scout pack Secured funding for a community outing Visual Audits Supported ex-offender in his home
