20  The charity was established under a Charity Commission scheme on 29 January 1963 and was a amalgamation of the Richard Leche Charity (founded 1596), which had a small fund, and the Henry Smith Charity (Tolleshunt D’Arcy estate) established in 1641, which had an income, which the trustees receive annually, being the share of the rents from property in Essex.  The period of office for nominated trustees is four years.  The Leche’s and Smith’s Charities trustees at present are: ◦ Bernard Trew Nominative trustee for Fletching PC ◦ Barry Dickens Nominative trustee for Fletching PC ◦ Mrs Karen Day Nominative trustee for Danehill PC ◦ Mrs Mary Lynch Co-optative trustee for Fletching. ◦ Jonathan Blake Co-optative trustee for Danehill.  The purpose of the trust is for the general relief of the poor in the ancient parish of Fletching – which now means Fletching and Danehill parishes.  This past year (in 2011) the charity has made grants to local residents of the parishes totalling £2,775.
