3 This is my 18 th year teaching and my 11 th at Crooked Billet. I’ve been married 16 years and have four daughters, Gianna 11, Nina 8, Maria 7, and Angelina 3 1/2 months. I love movies, reading books, writing, and spending time with my family. Get to Know Mrs. Quartullo

4 Class Schedule 2015-2016 8:40-9:00 Unpack, morning work 9:00-10:00 Math 10:00-11:00 Working with Words & Shared Reading (working snack) 11:00-11:30 Being a Writer 11:30-12:00 WIN (No volunteers) 12:00-12:45 Recess and Lunch 12:45-1:30 Guided Reading, Centers & AR 1:30-2:15 Special 2:15-3:00 Science or Social Studies (Thursdays are technology.)

5 Specials Schedule (1:30-2:15) Monday: Gym Teacher: Ms. Vecchione Tuesday: Art Teacher: Mr. Rodebaugh Wednesday: Library Teacher: Mrs. Powell Thursday: Health Teacher: Ms. Vecchione Friday: Music Teacher: Mrs. Welch New this year: Technology will be every Thursday from 2:15-3:00. Ms. Rotchford will teach alone every other week in the computer lab and we will co-teach every other week.

7 Assessments Reading: guided reading, DRA’s (Nov & May), DIBELS, Accelerated Reader/STAR test, End-of- Story and Unit Tests, Trimester Tests, Center & Class Work Writing: Being a Writer Notebook, Journals, Writer’s Workshop pieces, District Writing Prompts, Center & Class Work Math: Journal Pages, Math Boxes, Unit Tests, Projects, Game Days

8 Assessments Continued Science: Class Work, Group and Individual Projects, Experiments/Journals, Unit Tests Social Studies: Class Work, Group and Individual Projects, Theme Tests. Assessments are not limited to those listed here! ###Test papers will come home almost every Monday in the folder labeled “Test Folder”. Please review, sign, and return tests in the folder on the next school day.

11 2 nd Grade Behavior Policy On the first day of school, the students and I agreed to classroom rules. They include: -Be kind and respectful. -Be a good listener. -Raise your hand. -Be safe in and out of the building. -Always be and do your best. #Discuss colors, good time tickets, marbles, other rewards, monthly calendars, citizenship awards #Any questions? Oct. 1-1 warning and then go to yellow Jan. 1-once on yellow, cannot go back to green

13 Homework Mondays: 1 reading comprehension booklet page with AR book or comprehension rubric OR retelling chart (due Thurs), 1 E.M. Home Link page #2 or more math calendar boxes due every Friday. Tuesdays: 1 activity/subject varies, 1 E.M. home link, 1 reading log Wednesdays: 1 activity/subject varies, 1 E.M. home link, 1 reading log Thursdays: Game/Extra practice night, ST math website or Everyday Math website, Spelling City, alternative assignments for kids without internet Math Home Link Book stays home-tear out pages and send in homework folder when they are due. Spelling menu: Choose any 3 boxes to do in notebook that comes home. Due on the day of a spelling test. (Spelling flash cards come home any day. Practice all week for test on day 5.)

14 Homework Homework is the practice or extension of the skills taught in class. It is also for you to see what your child is learning and how well he/she understands the content. Please check their folder and work everyday! Students copy their homework and reminders daily in their red homework books. Please initial this book every night. Assignments are also listed on my website if needed.

15 Other Special Topics Star Student/Parent of the Week Movie Snacks Volunteering (clearances) Field trips (Play at the Keswick, Science Animal Unit trip, Jarrett Nature Center, Pen Pal Picnic- June) Pretzels on Wed./Wed. folders Notes and money to school, belongings, student responsibility, getting along with others, communication!

16 Our Partnership Your child will greatly benefit from the partnership you and I will share with each other and with him/her. Please check your child’s folders and backpack daily. Please let me know right away when things don’t come home or if your child is having difficulty. Don’t wait! If at anytime I have concerns about your child’s progress, I will contact you! When all beginning of year assessments are complete, I will contact you in October. I am here to support you and your child to the best of my ability. Please feel comfortable contacting me with questions, concerns, or good news to share at any time!
