2 Apostrophe’s in Contractions Rule:In English you can use contractions to shorten a word by removing one letter or more and substituting an apostrophe in the same spot. The resulting word is shorter and faster to say, with only one syllable (sound) instead of two. Example: Won’t, for example, is short for will not.

4 Using the Right Word – its vs it’s Rule: Its is the possessive pronoun; it modifies a noun. It's is a contraction of it is or it has.possessive pronouncontraction Example: Incorrect: The mother cat carried it's kitten in it's mouth. (Possessive pronoun, no apostrophe) Correct: The mother cat carried its kitten in its mouth.

6 Commas in a Series Rule: Use commas to separate words and word groups in a simple series of three or more items. When the last comma in a series comes before and or or, it is known as the Oxford comma. Example: My estate goes to my husband, son, daughter-in-law, and nephew.

8 would of vs. would have (nonstandard language) Rule: would have refers to a missed opportunity in the past. In informal speech, it contracts to would’ve, not "would of.

9 chose vs. choose (2 of 2) Rule: The present participle of choice is ‘choose’. It is a verb which is pronounced as “chews”. To choose is to pick out or select. The past tense of choose is ‘chose’. It is a verb too and is pronounced as “choze”.
