Learning Outcomes To explain how Christian teachings impact on their communities Wednesday 22nd June Starter What do you think this quote means: “No man is an island, entire of itself, each man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.” John Donne 1572-1631 If ‘each man is part of the continent’ then how should we treat people?

3 All students should be able to describe at least two key Christian teachings Most students should be able to consider the relevance of those teachings for communities today Some students should be able to justify their opinions on the Christian teachings and explain how these beliefs can be put into action Learning Outcomes

4 How does following the 10 Commandments help a Christian to the follow the Christian purpose of life?

5 What do the first four commandments encourage Christians to do?

6 What values do the last six commandments encourage Christians to promote?

7 Do the 10 commandments influence the life of a Christian? Why are they important to a Christian? Discuss:

8 Look at the different Christian teachings/ Parables. What do they mean? Highlight those that, if followed, would help to make society a better place to live in.

9 Choose one-three of your highlighted teachings and give reasons for your choice. Ext: Choose one/two that wouldn’t make society a better place. Explain why.

10 Find out about the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats. Describe it and then explain how this impact on a Christian community. Begin your revision for your end of year test. Due: Wednesday 29th June Homework

11 How can an initiation ritual such as baptism or bar/bat mitzvah be used to identify yourself as a member of a community? Begin your revision for your end of year test. Due: Tuesday 28th June Homework

12 Plenary: ‘Christian Community’ brief In your groups, decide how Christian teachings would help people to decide what to do in the scenario given. Feedback ideas to the class with reasons why.
