5 Checklist: Six- Step Process: 1.Understand the equity issues in the project area 2.Identify the disadvantaged group on which to focus 3.Decide what is in project’s manageable interest to change 4.Define equity goals, objectives, and a project-specific definition of equity 5.Determine equity strategies and activities 6.Develop equity-focused M&E

6 Care Group & CHW Performance TAGs CSHGP—Featured and participated in TAGs, highlighting community-oriented projects with CHWs, learning around CHW systems, linkages to larger USAID and global efforts CORE Group—Linking Care Group TAG to explore questions around scale-up and linkages to national CHW systems; leading task force on Community Health systems and program learning mechanisms to facilitate continuous learning on CHW issues MCHIP—Hosted TAGs and are linking next steps to planning and focus on CHWs at national scale

7 Key Messages Care Groups are not meant to replace CHWs but they provide a means to extend the reach of CHWs to achieve high levels of household level behavior change associated with mortality reduction. Implementation of Care Groups at scale requires partnership with MOH, NGOs and communities.

9 CCM Essentials Guide CSHGP—Contributed to evidence base and guide development; implementing and scaling-up CCM; participated in TAG CORE Group—Coordinated the development, production and dissemination of the guide; on-going program learning through meetings and Community Health Network mechanisms and hosted recent CCM TAG MCHIP—Taking to scale in country programs, hosting iCCM Task Force and www.ccmcentral.com; collaboratively developing indicators, benchmarks, and guidelines www.ccmcentral.com

10 CSHGP - CCM The Child Survival and Health Grants Program contribute to CCM in 12 countries (Sudan, Benin, Niger, Nepal, Uganda, Zambia, Burundi, Liberia, India, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Rwanda). There are 18 projects in total contributing to global and national learning to inform policy. These projects collectively reach 1,613,624 children under the age of five. Seven of the 18 projects are implementing integrated community case management (malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia) while others focus on a single disease area. Meredith Crews, USAID
