2 Silver has been known since ancient times. It is mentioned in Genesis. Slag dumps in Asia Minor and on islands in the Aegean Sea indicate that man learned to separate silver from lead as early as 3000 B.C. Silver iodide was used to cause clouds to produce rain

3 It is stable in pure air and water, but tarnishes when exposed to ozone, hydrogen sulfide, or air containing sulfur. Silver is silver colored. It has metallic luster. Pure silver has the highest electrical and thermal conductivity of all metals. It is malleable. It is ductile.

4 Silver occurs naturally and in ores such as argentite and horn silver. It can also be found in ores containing lead, gold, and copper. Silver can be made by a chemical reaction between copper and silver nitrate in the formula below: Cu(s) + 2AgNO3 (aq) → Cu(NO3)2 + 2 Ag (s)

5 Silver is used in dental alloys. Silver is also used to make high capacity silver-zinc and silver-cadmium batteries. Silver paints are used for making printed circuits. Silver is also used in mirror production. Silver fulminate is a powerful explosive. Silver is used for making coins. Silver is also used in jewelry, photography, and electrical conductors. Silver nitrate is used in photography because of its reactivity to light.
