Michael ten Donkelaar ENVIROS, s.r.o. Prague, 7 th of April 2016 Status WP 6 – Implementation of Adapted Energy Management Standard

Agenda Introduction of main objectives Presentation per partner of 10 minutes in power point, containing: Status of workshops in own country (until end of March) Status recruitment of companies Status of EMS consultancy Status of “learning material”, example folder Alternative plans Plan B (approach adjacent sectors) or Plan C (change target per country to get to 100 SMEs) How to work with printing companies

Objectives of the work package The adapted standard for the Energy Management System printing industry will be implemented in 100 SMEs with the help of industrial associations Original duration – month 16 – 30 (June 2015 – August 2016) – Now until February 2017 Enhance the awareness in the European Printing Industry by introducing different materials, awareness tools, benchmark tools for assessment, and a EMS manual for the Printing Industry in EU. Implementation takes place step-by-step by selecting companies in each country, organizing country workshops for SMEs, building knowledge and awareness within the industry organizations and consulting the SMEs in five countries by a ‘implementation package’. After successful implementation  “EMS implementation declaration”

Tasks of WP6 6.1. Companies and managers selection 6.1.1 Selection of SMEs in each country, followed by National workshops 6.1.2 Selection of SMEs’ Energy Managers 6.2. Implementation in 100 SMEs 6.2.1 Training implementation workshop, training in a workshop or on site 6.2.2 Company visits 6.2.3 Reporting of results, what to report and publish and what not? 6.3 Final Implementation workshop

Main actions Recruitment planning from Madrid meeting: 10 SMEs by end of January 2016 15 SMEs by end of February 2016 20 SMEs by end of March 2016 Now, 20 SMEs by end of April 2016 Current status  see country presentations: Corrective action needed at this project meeting? Development of training for energy managers (1 day workshop) Development of method to report the energy efficiency potential – Deliverable: Summary of energy efficiency potential improvement Develop a method to report the gathered information of the EnMS implementation

Presentations per partner Netherlands Denmark Germany Czech Republic Spain

Plan B or Plan C Plan B – Approach adjacent sectors – like sign or (print) packaging Plan C – If a country does not reach 20 companies, it could be possible that another country visits more than 20 companies. This would mean a shift of budget. For now, we will follow plan B only

6.1 Companies and managers selection 6.1.1 Selection of SMEs in each country (National workshops) Selection of SMEs discussed before Organisation of National Workshop (originally month 15–18 /May–August 2015) – Now January – March 2016 Flexibility for partners to replace workshop with face to face meetings 6.1.2 Selection of SMEs’ Energy Managers Selecting the participant SMEs  focus on the selection of Energy Managers within the organizations. Most likely, the Energy Manager position will be filled by maintenance or environmental personnel. The main goal is to have at least 1 trained energy manager in each company.

6.2 Implementation in 100 SMEs The consultancy of 100 SMEs will take place (Jan. - Oct. 2016) Possible to extend this period until end 2016 Selected energy manager candidates will be invited for trainings prior to EMS implementation. WP leader develops a programme for this 1-day implementation training workshop Tools from WP2 – 5 as input Can be more effective to do on-site 6.2.1. Training Implementation workshops Training for the energy managers 6.2.2. Company visits (at least 2 per company) 6.2.3 Reporting of results per company 6.3 Final workshops (Nov. 2016 – Feb. 2017)

Company visits During the company visits special attention will be paid to: Implementation progress; What has already been done What do they know and what not Control and monitoring systems; Awareness raising situation within the organization; Gaps in data availability; Identification and feasibility of energy saving measures (savings, investment, financial options, ESCO involvement); Communication with management

WP6 outcomes Specific baseline audit energy management and potentials on energy efficiency improvement of 100 SMEs Implementation of EnMS (according to ISO 50001) in 100 SMEs (up to 25% do not need to implement the full standard – only energy audit)  75 SMEs to implement EnMS fully Awareness of 300 SMEs per country (1500 for the project) Key question – What has to be published at the end?

Questions about energy management to the company EMSPI - where to focus on in the first place, what are your current needs What has already been done How is energy consumption measured at what intervals Separate measurement in different parts of the company Use of energy performance indicators Introduction of new procedures related to EnMS Benchmarking – any idea how your company is standing compared to other companies

Method to report the information of the EnMS implementation What to report / monitor Management commitment Energy management checklist – what has been implemented and what not? Energy performance indicators Measures proposed Savings potential, split in: No / low-cost measures – organisational Low cost measures – technology Medium / high costs measures - technology

Deliverables D6.1 – List of selected SMEs D6.2 – Report on trainings for energy managers: 1. workshop with 2 parts per country including slides and training materials D6.3 – 100 EMS manuals of SMEs for companies of category 1 – to a maximum up to 25% of all the SMEs – the manuals might only include the part of the implementation related to Energy Audits, including proposal for investments D6.4 – Summary of energy efficiency potential improvements for 100 SMEs D6.5 – Report on the final implementation workshop including slides

Summary of energy efficiency potential improvements What kind of information do we need to present here? List of proposed measures List of measures likely to be implemented Estimate of energy savings potential for 1) all measures and 2) implemented measures or likely to be implemented measures Energy savings in relation to consumption (in %) Energy savings per year and up to 2020 Financial savings per year and up to 2020 CO 2 savings per year and up to 2020 Every partner to report on implemented measures and measures likely to be implemented First table of energy efficiency measures / quantification to propose by 15.01.2016

Status in the Czech Republic

Last summer we talked with new chairman of Association of Polygraphic Industry Unfortunately, difficult to start cooperation, no real interest from their side Decision made to contact companies separately (one by one) Massive mailing (500+) started January 2016, little response from this activity In parallel, printing companies contacted that we knew from earlier cooperation Now we have 7 companies committed, willing to implement Full EnMS With approx. 5 - 7 other companies in close contact 20 will be challenging, but reachable

Example of registration

Status in the Czech Republic Mulltiple visits are planned to single companies, 2 nd half of April, May Implementation to start from June onwards Realise that companies are very busy, difficult to get them on one location The best way to work with them is face to face Could this replace country wide workshop?

Difficulties to overcome Inability of association to be of help, little capacity here (1 chairman) Time limits of companies, even when committed, difficult to invite them to one place for a workshop  face to face contact works better, this is more time consuming Main incentive for companies to join is saving energy and money, but this differs per company No other incentive, e.g. tax breaks on mandatory implementation Main arguments we work with: We offer for free something that would normally cost you money (EnMS implementation) Saving energy and money Ready for ISO certification (but argument only works with bigger companies)
