Walk, cycle, or ride in safety No cars No lorries No buses No motor bikes along railway paths in County Durham

Brandon – Bishop Auckland Walk Between Brandon and Bishop Auckland there are 8 access points where you can join the railway path. Some have car park space, like this one. The access point in this picture is the third one after Brandon – Brancepeth Station. As is indicated by the sign, there used to be a railway station here. The railway line fell into disuse in the 1960’s and the present walk was created in 1980. Access Points

Walking, cycling and horse riding only Of course, we don’t mind if you want to run or jog to keep fit! To maintain the rural setting, we only locate signs, such as the “No Motorcycles” at the access points. Most paths permit horse riding, but at the entrance to some narrower paths you may see a sign a “No Horses” sign. Keeping things peaceful

Dogs are man’s best friend, but ….. For many, taking their dogs, is part of the joy of walking. All we ask is that you pick up any waste that your dog deposits and keep your dog under proper control. To help, we have located a dog waste bin at every access point on the route. Respecting the rights of others

Traffic warnings at access points Safety at access points These signs are on the road which crosses the Brandon to Bishop Auckland path at Brancepeth Station. We also install road humps to force traffic to slow before the junction of the railway path and the road. These safety precautions are used at any access point where traffic might be encountered. We hope that you will take advantage of these wonderful paths, whether you want to: Walk, cycle, or ride
