1 Do Now : 3 Word Summary  Once the line encountered the body of a dead soldier. He lay upon his back staring at the sky. He was dressed in an awkward suit of yellowish brown. The youth could see that the soles of his shoes had been worn to the thinness of writing paper, and from a great rent in one the dead foot projected piteously. And it was if fate had betrayed the soldier. In death it exposed to his enemies that poverty which in life he had perhaps concealed from his friends.

4 Objective  SWBAT evaluate the imagery in the TRBC at a minimum of 80% mastery, by extracting 5- 7 examples from the text and identifying 2-3 complimentary examples of figurative language in order to provide an objective summary.

7 The Function of Imagery  The function of imagery in literature is to generate a vibrant and graphic presentation of a scene that appeals to as many of the reader’s senses as possible.  It aids the reader’s imagination to envision the characters and scenes in the literary piece clearly. . It beautifies a piece of literature.

8 Characteristics of Imagery  Imagery needs the aid of figures of speech/ figurative language like simile, metaphor, and personification in order to appeal to the bodily senses.  Imagery is he strongest device in literature.
