3 Picture of Dorian Gray Reading Guide Expectations  Data: used in EVERY answer (1 data for 3 sentence answers and 3 data for 8- 12 sentence answers). Any answer without the miniumum data will receive half credit only since textual evidence is KEY to Common Core and AP.  Claim: ANSWERS THE PROMPT DIRECTLY. Ex. Shakespeare uses visual imagery and connotative diction in the Porter’s scene to create a satirical tone.  Characterization refers to a personality trait.  Meaning=message or theme. Themes are NOT one word. Ask: 1. What is the topic? 2. What is this scene/play saying about the topic? Ex. The banquet scene portrays the idea that guilt has an adverse effect on the psyche of people.

4 Picture of Dorian Gray Reading Guide Expectations  Imagery: words used to describe imagery are: visual (sight), auditory (sound), kinesthetic (touch), olfactory (smell) and gustatory (taste).  Diction: use the terms on the handout that we discussed.  Combine diction and language in the analysis.  Use literary present tense when writing about literature.  Use example transitions when introducing the data/text evidence.  This what???  Start sentences a variety of ways.  Follow pacing guide (divide and conquer) to avoid stress and to achieve success.
