2 TEKS 8C: Calculate percent composition and empirical and molecular formulas. How did two political parties emerge? Washington and others feared that factions would be destructive to the new government. Early political groups were called factions. They were widely thought to be selfish groups.

State’s Rights  The Alien and Sedition Act inspired Republicans to draft the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions.  These resolutions rejected or attempted to nullify the federal laws.  Republicans argued for state’s rights or the authority of the states to overrule federal law because they believed that the states created the federal government and that the role of the state government was to protect the citizens from the federal government.
