3 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  Beginning Spring ‘16, Must pass 9 Progress Towards Degree Credits To Be Eligible To Compete The Following Semester  Effective August 1 st, 2016  9 PTD Credits each semester (to be eligible to compete the following term)  Minimum 2.00 GPA entering each fall  24 PTD credits/academic year (maximum six summer credits)

4 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  Additional Credit Requirements  24 PTD credits for each academic year;  24 PTD credits since the beginning of the previous two full-time terms; or  48 PTD credits during the first two years of college enrollment (only “averaging method” left).

5 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  Student-athletes may regain eligibility following the next academic term if the credit deficiency is met  EX: Fall 2015 – Passed 12 (Eligible for Spring 16) Spring 2016 - Passed 8 (Ineligible for Fall 16) Spring 2016 - Passed 8 (Ineligible for Fall 16) Summer 2016 – Failed all courses (Ineligible) Summer 2016 – Failed all courses (Ineligible) Fall 2016 – Passed 16 (Eligible for Spring 17) Fall 2016 – Passed 16 (Eligible for Spring 17)

6 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  General Rule:  A SA who transfers to a member institution from a two-year college must complete an academic year of residence, unless he or she meets the following requirements for immediate eligibility (or a waiver is granted).

7 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  Attendance for at least two full-time terms; and  At least 25% of the credit hours used are earned at the institution that awards the degree.  If the SA previously attended a four-year institution, transferred to the two-year college and graduated that first semester, they will not have to meet the two full-time semesters requirement.  Must pass a minimum of 9 credits their previous FT term; if not, then a “Semester of Residence” is possible

8 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  Attendance for only one FT semester;  Completed at least 12 hours of transferable degree credit; and  Minimum 2.200 cumulative GPA.  Can use a maximum of two physical education activity credits to meet this requirement, unless designated as a P.E. major or an Ed major that requires P.E. activity credits

9 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  Attendance for at least 2 full-time terms;  Complete an average of at least 12 transferable credit hours per full-time term;  Minimum transferable GPA of 2.200; and  Must pass a minimum of 9 credits their previous FT term (Additional Course Requirements on following slide)

10 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  Students must have passed the following course requirements:  6 credits of English;  3 credits of Math; and  3 credits of Natural or Physical Science  Of note, remedial courses may not be used to meet these course requirements.  Additionally, can only use a maximum of two physical education credits to meet the course average and GPA requirements, unless designated as a P.E. major or an Ed. Major that requires P.E. credits.

11 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  Full and Partial Qualifiers: Can do everything except compete and travel during YOR  Non-Qualifiers:  If all requirements are met except for the 2.200 transferable GPA but have at least a 2.000, they can do everything except compete and travel during YOR  If they do not meet any requirements including the minimum 2.000 GPA, they may not participate in any CARA or receive athletic financial assistance during YOR.

12 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  2-2-4 Transfers:  Required to consider all FT terms and credit hours (including PT hours) from all previous 2-year institutions.  4-2-4, 4-2-2-4, or 2-4-2-4 Transfers  Required to consider all FT terms and credit hours (including PT hours) earned at all previous 2-year institutions following the student’s most recently attended four-year institution.

13 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  4-2-4 English, Math, and Science  Permitted to use credit hours in English, Math, and Natural/Physical Science earned at the previous four-year institution to meet transferable course requirements  Transfers must complete 2-4 transfer requirements before the SA transfers to the certifying institution as a FT student or reports for preseason practices. Otherwise the SA will be required to serve one YOR

14 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  Transferable GPA:  Must consider grades earned in all 2-year college courses that are otherwise transferable to certifying institution.  Includes failed course; and  Only most recent grade earned in a repeated course, although the credits will be accounted for during the term the course was initial taken.

15 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  Discontinued/Nonsponsored Sport  Two-year institution dropped or never sponsored SA’s sport;  Never attended another institution that offer sport; and  Still earned a transferable GPA of 2.200  Nonrecruited Student-Athlete  PSA was not recruited by MSU;  No athletics aid was awarded;  No previous competition or CARA > 14 days; and  SA eligible for admission to certifying institution prior to 2- year attendance.

16 Minnesota State University Compliance & Student Services  Two-Year Non/Minimal Participation  No competition or CARA > 14 days for a two-year period prior to participation at certifying institution; and  Two-year period does not include any pre-collegiate time.  Return to Original Four-Year Institution  No unfulfilled residence requirement at MSU
