FROM 1965 TO 1975 In the years between 1965 and 1975 there had been many social movements formed through spontaneous aggregation of people from different places. These movements developed in different countries in the world and it seemed they wanted to overthrow governments and political systems with their protest. They were for a radical transformation of society. The 1968 was the crucial year. It also gave its name to a movement, the

In Italy, the dispute was the result of a deep social difficulty accumulated in the 60s. The so-called economic boom had largely benefited the middle class and was not accompanied by an appropriate increase in the social and economic level of the lower classes. 3 NEW CLOTHES NEW STYLE The Miniskirt style wasn’t accepted by the conservative sosciety. Parents saw this trend as an invitation to rape. However girls considered miniskirt a symbol of freedom, freedom to show their legs. Jeans style was less provokative than the skirts, but they also were a symbol of freedom and street fashion.

LONG HAIR BOYS In Italy young men with long hairs were called “capelloni”. They were seen as bad and drug addicts, but their goal was to express their rebellion against the rules of their parents’ generation and the system. That was also a way to follow the ideas of people from other countries, like USA and Great Britain, which meant to wear like the youths Beat movement or the Hippies. In 1966 during the flood of Florence, people of these movements from all Italy came to Florence to save the art of the city, they were called the Angels of Mud.

TV A NEW FORM OF ENTERTAINMENT Tv wasn’t really widespread in Italian houses in the 60’s, people used to go to cafés to watch tv, it was like going to the cinema or to the theatre. They used to see tv quiz or music shows. Soon popular Italian singers appeared on tv proposing a new style of music like Rock and Roll, Beat and Pop music. At the time Beatles became very popular.

SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER Going out with friends was the most important way to meet new people, as it happends now. People begun to go to the disco and new dances like Shake and Twist became very popular. These dances were free, every one could dance in his own way following the sound of the music. THE CURFEW Girls could go out with their friends but were not used to spend the whole night out. They usually were home before midnight, instead boys coud stay out untill 1 or 2 in the morning.

PAPERS & MAGAZINES One of the most popular magazine was Panorama, the end of 60’s was a period full of terrorist attacks so people wanted to be updated to understand political events. TV HELPS LEARNING More and more families had got tv at home. Through tv, traditional learning through education or religion begun to get a minor role in the worldview of the people who started living in a world of tv tha doesn’t coincide with the real one. Even if in Italy tv has been very helpful to improve the Italian language for all Italians from north to south, the power of media got stronger and stronger. Since that time tv went on changing our way of thinking.
