2 Tidal Volume Breathe normally a couple of times. Take a normal breath and exhale a normal amount of air into the balloon. Measure the balloon’s diameter. Repeat. You need 3 trials total.

3 Expiratory Reserve Breathe normally a few times. Exhale normally. Then before inhaling again, force any air left in your lungs into the balloon. Measure the balloon’s diameter. Repeat. You need 3 trials total.

4 Analysis Using the formulas for a sphere, calculate the volume of air for your tidal volume and your expiratory reserve.
