3. 3 The definition of culture by Fons Trompenaars… „ A fish only feels that it needs water when there isn‘t any around it. Culture is for human beings the same as water for a fish. We live through it.“

4. 4 The iceberg model > Cultures have something common with icebergs: You can see only the smallest part. But this small part can restrict your understanding. > What we perceive above water level is varied: behaviour, tradition, language etc.

5. > What we don‘t perceive, but what is very important for the understanding of culture are the values, the perception of the world, the believed attitudes of mankind > All this together forms what we call culture

6. 6 What happens if two icebergs meet? Every person carries an iceberg with him or herself around. What happens if two different icebergs meet?

7. If two people of different cultures meet, they tend to interpret the behaviour of the other one on the base of their own values and attitudes
