3.2.16 WEDNESDAY UNIT 4 ECOLOGY Go over Quiz/Test Levels of Ecology White Board Activity Objective #1

LEVELS OF ORGANIZATION ACTIVITY Term Definition Picture Order Terms: Population Ecosystem Species Biome Biosphere Community

3.3.16 THURSDAY UNIT 4 ECOLOGY o POP QUIZ o OBJECTIVE #2 o BIOMES o BIOME POSTER

BIOME POSTER-DAY 1 Choose a partner Choose a biome Research Biome Choose an abiotic (at least 5) or biotic factor to draw in your poster for each letter of the alphabet A-Z Make a poster depicting your biome with each letter shown (but don’t write the letter)

BIOME POSTER- DAY 2 Finish choosing your abiotic/biotic factors for each letter of the alphabet. Write on paper (each person). Find real things that are there-don’t just guess!!!!! Start organizing and drawing your biome. You must have a title on your poster DO NOT WRITE ANY OTHER LETTERS OR WORDS ON YOUR POSTER!!

BIOME POSTER- DAY 3 Finish drawing/coloring your biome. Identify each level of organization within your poster on your worksheet. Species: Pick 1 organism (scientific name) Population: Name your group of species (do they have a name??) Community: Identify it using other populations Ecosystem: Identify an area of poster with abiotic and biotic factors Biome: Biosphere:

3.9.16 WEDNESDAY UNIT 4 ECOLOGY Food Chains/Food Webs Continue Poster Project due at end of period Thursday!!!! Binder check Thursday!!!

HOW ORGANISMS OBTAIN ENERGY Producer: Also called autotrophs Organisms that make their own food

Consumers: Organisms that must consume other organisms for their energy also called heterotrophs

TYPES OF CONSUMERS: 1. HERBIVORE – PLANT EATER

2. CARNIVORES – MEAT EATER

3. OMNIVORES – EAT BOTH MEAT AND PLANTS

4. DECOMPOSERS – FEED OFF DEAD ORGANIC MATTER

Trophic Levels Each step in a food chain is called a trophic level. PRODUCERS 1 ST LEVEL CONSUMERS HERBIVOURES 2 ND LEVEL CONSUMERS CARNIVORES 3 RD LEVEL CONSUMERS OMNIVORES/CARNIVORES

ENERGY PYRAMID Shows the amount of available energy at each trophic level. –Only 10% of energy gets passed on

FOOD WEB shows all the possible food chains in an ecosystem. Arrows are used to show which way energy is being transferred Arrows must point to who receives food.

BIOME POSTER – DAY 4 Identify 6 food chains within your poster/or biome Label the levels within each food chain Make 1 food web from your poster Poster and paper due at end of period tomorrow!!!!!

3.10.16 THURSDAY UNIT 4 ECOLOGY Binder check Biome Project Due today!!!!!

3.11.16 FRIDAY UNIT 4 OBJECTIVE # 3 – Practice Quiz WHITE BOARD BIOMES REVIEW WORKSHEETS

Q #1 In this food chain, which organism would be the 3rd order consumer? A. Flower B. Sun C. Mouse D. Hawk

Q#2 In this food chain, which organism is the producer? A. Flower B. Caterpillar C. Mouse D. Hawk

Q #3 What is the name for an organism that consumes both plants and meat? A. Herbivore B. Carnivore C. Omnivore D. Decomposer

Q# 4 How do producers get their food? A. They must eat other organisms. B. They must combine other organisms with water C. They create their own food using light energy, water, and CO2

Q #5 Make 1 food chain found within this food web. You must include 3 organisms and label the trophic level.

3.14.16 MONDAY UNIT 4 Grades Biome quiz Food Web video Finish packet

PRACTICE QUIZ 1. Receives the most rain.A. taiga 2.Receives the least amount of rain.B. rainforest 3.Coldest and treeless.C. desert 4.Goes through all 4 seasons, and contains squirrels.D. grassland 5.Covered with rich soil and grasses.E. tundra 6.Contains coniferous trees and moose.F. temperate forest 7. Contains sharks and coral.G. freshwater 8. Shallow water that contains frogs, insects, carp, etc.H. marine
