Exposition The first stage of the plot; Introduces the setting and some of the characters

Rising Action Events before the climax; The conflict is introduced

climax The climax is the most exciting part! The turning point – the most dramatic moment Everything changes after this event

Falling Action Events after the climax but before the resolution of the ending of the story

Resolution Conclusion; The conflict is fixed

Theme The The meaning or message of the story Can Can be expressed by one or two sentence statement about human beings or about life May May be stated directly or implied

Example of Theme For example, the subject of the Aesop’s fable the turtle and hare is a race, the theme is: “Slow and steady wins the race.”

Characterization Actions, Actions, words, or thoughts that give information about a character Two Two primary methods of characterization: Direct- Direct- writer tells what the character is like Indirect- Indirect- writer shows what a character is like by describing what the character looks like, by telling what the character says and does, and by what other characters say about the character.

Mood The feeling or atmosphere in the story
