So You Want to Move eh? My best choice is Reasons to move. Closer to family? Do you want the professional opportunities? Would you prefer to live closer to nature? Are you influenced by “push or pull” factors….(are you being pushed out of your town or are you being pulled by the new town?)

Career Opportunities List the career options and stats here…. – Is there room in the new city for you? If the market is saturated with professionals in your area of expertise, will you be able to find a job? – Will the salary be lower because of the excess of available workforce? The excitement of a new city to live in can fade quickly if you can’t find a well-paying job.salary

Other Considerations – the cost of living and compare it and your projected income. Will you be ahead or behind? housing costs (compare this to Golden) food costs (compare this to Golden) transportation costs the climate of the area (cold, hot, rainy, dry, humid, etc) – job security – median income. Your salary in the new city may be higher than your current one, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you will be able to live better or afford a higher lifestyle. – What is the average rental apartment like and how much it costs to live there? – Is transportation readily available or will you need a car to move around? – How long will your commute to work be?

Other Considerations – Crime rate, – Level of individual stress and strain – What is the average income of the new town or city – What are the population trends of the new city….(is it stable, growing or dying?) – What are the main industries that support the people of the new town or city and what are the short and long-term predictions for the main supporting industries) – What is the political climate? Will you be free, will you be safe from war, etc?

Other Considerations

Cultural Life – Theatre, performance centres, art museums – Is there a public market – Are there enough places to play….parks, sports centers, – Medical care facilities – Facilities for leisure – College or universities close by (life-long learning is important)

Lifestyle and Quality of Life Visit the place. Rather than being a tourist, try to become as much of a local as possible. – What places are there to shop in neighboring supermarkets? – What feeling do you get for the place? – Will you be healthy living there? (pollution, other health risks?)
