17 NEXT in the Defense Market (1/2) In the Defense segment NEXT cooperates with the major industrial companies, both Italian, European and international, for the creation of complex systems in Missile, Terrestrial, Naval and underwater Naval sectors. Due to the large number of subsystems that have to be integrated and the heterogeneity of used platforms, the difficulty of the creation of these systems involves resources having a relevant strong professional background. The contribution to the development of large and complex systems allowed NEXT to strengthen a wide and important domain of skills over specific applicative Defense systems. The application domains in which our company keeps on accumulating experience include: surveillance and discovery to tracking, interrogation, simulation and displaying systems. © NEXT Ingegneria dei Sistemi S.p.A.

25 © NEXT Ingegneria dei Sistemi S.p.A. GMES Project : FACFOR (Fine scale Atmosphere Composition and air Quality Monitoring and FORecast) FACFOR project aims at developing and demonstrating new applications focused on the usage of multisensory/ multitemporal satellite data and ground-based data for the improvement of air quality composition and forecast services. The idea is to improve existing services providing high resolution Maps (1 km x 1 km) devoted to Air Quality (AQ) assessment through the fusion of satellite & ground-based data. New applications will be developed, prototyped and implemented within the FACFOR project with the following Objectives: Objective 1: Integration of satellite data and numerical simulations for fine-scale pollution mapping and forecast. Objective 2: Integration of satellite data, in-situ measurements, and physical modeling to estimate atmospheric gases concentration. Ground Segment and Mission Design (5/8)
