Replacing Coal USING CLEAN ENERGY TO REDUCE CO2 EMISSIONS

Government  Governor Gary R. Herbert and the Governor’s Office of Energy Development

The Problem  Utah produces power from a variety of sources. However the main sources are coal, natural gas, and oil  These are all fossil fuels and release harmful CO2 into the atmosphere  In fact global carbon emissions rose by 40 Billions Tons recently. Utah should not continue to contribute to this rising number

Energy Production/Use of Utah  In 2008 Utah used 943.8 Trillion BTUs  It produced only 0.1 in solar power.  Other productions  Hydro: 6.6  Wind: 0.2  Geothermal: 6.1  Coal: 395.9  Natural Gas: 232.4  Petroleum: 286.8

Proposal To Governor Gary R. Herbert  Adding solar panels to the roofs of homes will provide a way for Utah to produce clean energy, that comes easily.  Citizens can purchase the electricity from the solar panels and so fund the government, allowing for this project to bring money up and CO2 emissions down  Many organizations are working towards making solar energy competitive with other forms of energy, so possibly in a few years getting solar would cost less than it does now.

Cost of Putting in Solar Panels  An average U.S. household need 20-24 kWh per day  A solar array that can supply this amount would cost $15,000-20,000 per household  Utah has 877,692 households as of 2010  In all this would result in approximately $18,000,000,000 currently  This is a huge expense and so would have to be a project built over years.  However, a saving plan could be created so that as organizations work on reducing the cost of solar, Utah could be ready to execute this plan when the Funds and Cost met.

Request  My request is that getting solar panels will be funded so as to create clean energy for Utah residencies.  If this plan can be put into action then clean energy will be created for Utah. All of Utah’s households will run without releasing CO2 due to electricity usage  Please, stop running our houses on dirty energy  Save the Planet by reducing Utah's use of fossil fuels
