3 Eligible Researchers Types of Researchers: 1.Early Stage Researchers (ESR) -Research experience ≤ 4 years -No PhD -Duration of appointment: 3-36 months (typical appointments is 36 months) 2.Experienced Researchers (ER) still in their early career -PhD or at least 4 years of research experience -Duration of appointment: 3-24 months -NB: total research experience ≤ 5 years Overall network: at least 80% ESR An individual researcher may NOT be supported as an Early Stage and Experienced Reseracher within the same ITN!!!!

4 … Eligible Researchers 5 Years Experience: Initial Training Networks are limited to researchers in the first 5 years of their career at the time of recruitment. Experience is calculated at date of appointment

5 … Eligible Researchers Nationality : Researchers can be nationals of any country other than the country of the premises of the host organisation where they will carry out their project. Exceptions: -international organisations: CERN; ESRF; etc. -researchers with more than one natioanlity: can be recruited in the country of nationality in which he/she has not resided during the previous 5 years; -researchers who have legally resided and have had their principal activity (work, studies, etc.) in a third country for at least 3 out of the last 4 years

6 … Eligible Researchers Mobility : Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the country of the host for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment –Exception: international organisations: CERN; ESRF; etc. For eligibility examples, please refer to the Guide for Applicants 2008

7 Selection procedures Vacancies published internationally –press, websites, internet, conferences, mobility portals, etc: eligible costs after start date Equal opportunity policy Full-time employment (NO part-time!!!) Employment contracts!!! Conforms to the Code of Conduct for Recruitment of Researchers Researchers made aware of Marie Curie network, rights & duties, appointment conditions, etc.

9 Researchers Entitlements: Marie Curie Fellows 1.Employed Marie Curie Fellows should have: -pension, full social security, maternity leave etc. 2.Reseachers made aware that they are Marie Curie Fellows and of their rights and obligations: -Reserachers Z-Card distributed to fellows at the beginning of their contract

10 Allowances… … for the benefit of the fellow: p aid regularly: monthly/bi-monthly/weekly Living Allowance: –Fixed amount of 34.500 € yearly for ESR, and 53.000 € yearly for ER (as specified in Work Programme 2008), adjusted for country of host institution = correction coeffient ( i.e. Czech Republic 77,2% France 104, 4%; Germany 101, 5%; Ireland 113, 3%; Italy 103, 9%; Netherlands 101,2%; Slovak Rep. 82,2%; UK 109,2%) Mobility Allowance: –Fixed amount depending on the family status at date of recruitment( i.e. 500 € monthly for researchers without a family and 800 € monthly for researchers with familiy), adjusted for country of host institution

11 Allowances… … for the benefit of the fellow: Travel Allowance: –Fixed amount (< 500 Km = 250 €; 500- 1.000 Km = 500 €; 1.000 -1.500 Km = 750 € etc.) specified in Work Programme 2008 as well as in Appendix I to Annex I, depending upon the distance from country of origin to country of host institute. –As Travel Distance Calculator please use the following links: http://www.freemaptools.com/how-far-is-it-between.htm http://www.geobytes.com/CityDistanceTool.htm?loadpage By country of origin is meant the place where the researcher was residing or carrying out his/her main activity when taking up recruitment at the start of his/her initial training activities unless (s)he has resided or carried out his/her main activity for less than 12 months in this location immediately prior to this date. In the latter case, the location of origin is the capital city of the country of his/her nationality. In case of a researcher holding more than one nationality, the location of origin is the capital city of the country where the researcher was residing for the longest period during the last 5 years prior to his/her recruitment. For researchers eligible to receive travel allowances, the allowance is based on the direct distance (in a straight line) between the place of origin and the host institution of the researcher, calculated on the basis of one payment for every period of 12 months or less, when the first period or the last one is less than 12 months. Only one travel allowance shall be paid per period of 12 months, independently of possible interruptions or stays with different partners.

14 Researcher Contract Agreement between the fellow and the institution (see Annex III, Article III.4) Salary –Living, mobility and travel allowances –payment arrangements –any deduction Conditions of work Description of the research project Signed by both parties –Does not need to be sent to the REA Declaration on Conformity submitted through SESAM (access only through the coordinator!) – Signed Original to be sent to the REA just after the recruitments - MANDATORY

15 Career Development Personal Career Development Plan (agreed between the fellow and the supervisor) –short and long-term development goals –training needs including complementary skills –scientific objectives Career Exploratory Allowance –fixed amount of €2.000 –for each researcher with a stay of at least one year

16 Complementary Training Career appropriate skills –for example: communication, IPR, ethics, grant writing, commercial exploitation of results, research policy, entrepreneurship, language classes, etc. Conference and workshop attendance –eligible costs not to be charged to the researchers

17 Tuition Fees Should not be charged to the researcher Services charged for in tuition fees are eligible expenses –can be charged to the contract but NOT to the cost categories A to C (allowances entirely for the benefit of the reseacher).
