2  Develop an essential School Counseling Curriculum  Align the curriculum with PA Core Standards, PA Career and Work Standards, PA Interpersonal Standards, and the ASCA National Standards  Document essential counseling activities  Assess student progress toward the standards.  Evaluate the impact of the program.

3  Identify the essential activities critical to students achieving the standards  Identify the scope and sequence of those essential curriculum activities  Align those activities to the PA Core Standards, PA Career & Work Standards, PA Interpersonal Standards, and the ASCA National Standards  Document instructions for delivering each activity  Develop a program to assess students progress toward meeting the standards

4  Counseling curriculum (what you do to include ALL students, such as classroom lessons/presentations, small group activities, etc.)  Individual Planning  Responsive services  System support  Non-counseling activities

5  The scope will cover the standards (are all the standards listed? Which ones do you need to address?)  The sequence will list when each activity will take place grade by grade and month by month

6  “the planned interaction of students with instructional content, materials, resources, and processes for the evaluation and the attainment of the educational objectives”

7  Is a written instructional program presented developmentally and comprehensively  Aligns with the PA Core Standards, PA Career & Work Standards, PA Interpersonal Standards, and the ASCA National standards in the areas of academic, career, and personal/social development  Identifies the activities which will meet the standards

8  Title of you activity  Give yourself credit  Grade level  Materials  Collaboration required? Helpful?  ASCA Standards, PA Standards  What results do we expect from the students?

9  What preparations do we need to make?  What resources do we need  How man sessions are there  What are the “action steps’ and who is responsible for each step?  Attach any worksheets

10  Is there an understanding of the school environment and academic demands?  Is there an understanding of career awareness, decision making, and planning?  Is there an understanding of self and others through the development of interpersonal and communication skills?

11  Are your counseling curriculum activities/action plans….  For all students?  Organized, planned and written?  Sequential and flexible?  An integral part of the education process?  Opportunities to collaborate with teacher and other staff?  Helping students learn more effectively in all three domains?

12  Provides a “skeleton” view of your planning over the school year.

13  Provides a more in-depth view of the topics teachers have selected to instruct over the current school year.  Includes:  Objectives  Standards  Assessments  Learning Activities  Accommodations  Materials

14  Very specific planning of a unit for instruction.

16  Planning:  Convening a Curriculum Development Committee  Identifying Key Issues and Trends in the Specific Content Area  Assessing Needs and Issues

17  Articulating and Developing:  Articulating a K-12 Program Philosophy  Defining K-12 Program, Grade-Level and Course Goals  Developing and Sequencing of Grade-Level and Course Objectives  Identifying Resource Materials to Assist with Program Implementation  Developing and/or Identifying Assessment Items and Instruments to Measure Student Progress
