2 1 Australian Apprenticeship Support Services program Governed by the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR) – Federal Government. Australian Apprenticeships Centers are contracted to deliver free Australian Apprenticeship Support Services to employers, apprentices, schools, training providers and the wider community Australian Apprenticeships/Traineeships are available over 600 qualifications across Australia

7 6 Australian Government Eligibility Criteria Eligibility for incentives depends on a number of factors: 1. Type of employment - Employees must be employed on a full-time or part-time basis and work a minimum of 13hrs per week (casuals do not qualify) 2. Whether employees are new (employed less than 3 months full-time or 12 months part-time) 3. Whether employees are existing (employed more than 3 months full- time or 12 months part-time) 4. Prior qualifications (type of qualification and year completed can effect eligibility) 5. Permanent residency status

8 7 Overview of Australian Government Incentives for Australian Apprenticeships As of January 2011 both Apprenticeships and Traineeships are competency based.. 9 8 Workplace English Language & Literacy Program (WELL) Assists organisations to train workers in English language, literacy and numeracy skills. Funding is available on a competitive grants basis to organisations for English language and literacy training linked to job-related workplace training and is designed to help workers meet their current and future employment and training needs. Funding is available for three types of projects - training projects, resource and strategic projects Visit the DEEWR website for further information

10 9 Victorian Training Guarantee New program in 2011 that helps both individuals and businesses access a funded skills system. Allows all Victorians to have access to training no matter on their employment status. Subsidised training place applicable to all staff who are ‘up-skilling’ via an accredited training pathway. Offers a variety of VET programs which incorporate on-the-job training, including apprenticeships and traineeships.

11 10 Victorian Training Guarantee You can access a government subsidised training place if you are: Under 20 years of age, no matter what accredited course you are doing If you are doing a foundation level course (preparation for work, literacy and numeracy courses) If you wishing to undertake an apprenticeship/traineeship Doing an accredited course that is higher than any you have completed in the past

13 12 Skills for Growth – Workforce Development Program Identify business objectives and priorities Assess the skills needs of business and employees Establish a customised workforce training and development plan in line with strategic business goals Facilitate any staff placements into accredited training Review overall outcomes

14 13 Other Australian and State Government Incentives Workcover Concessions (State Govt) Disabled Australian Apprentices Wage Support (DAAWS) (Aust Govt) - $104.30 per week - Up to $5000 for workplace modifications.

15 14 Other Australian and State Government Incentives Continued Australian School Based Apprenticeship (Aust Govt) - Commencement Incentive - $750 - Retention Incentive - $750 Mature Aged (long-term unemployed) (Aust Govt) - Commencement Incentive - $750 - Completion Incentive - $750.
