Course Selection Process Rising 9 th Grade - Freshman Enter your own courses in PowerSchool during MATH class! –PowerSchool Scheduling Window Open March 24 – April 1, 2016. –Remember CHOOSE CAREFULLY! Courses are only offered when students sign up for them. If you change your mind, there might not be space for you. –Use the WORKSHEET to make sure you sign up for enough classes! Verification sheets printed from PowerSchool for parent signatures. –Verification Sheets for the courses YOU selected. –You and your family should review verifications and make changes on the verification sheet, if necessary. –Return to your Middle School Counselor the next day! Corrections! –Write in corrections on Verification Sheet! –Counselors and Teachers will review course selections and will correct as necessary. –After verification sheets are turned in, contact your MS counselor in writing for changes –NOTE: HS Counselors do not have access to change requests until you have completed 8 th grade in June! –E-mail preferred. –Info also available on our COUNSELING WEBSITE!

Course Selection Process Sign up for a Full Schedule! 7 hours Remember classes are offered based on what you sign up for. Not enough enrollment = class is not offered Sign up for 7 classes even if you are planning on Testing Out, CRs, DE, etc... We will work with you to correct schedule when results come through. Alternative Electives! Make sure you make choices. Proposed bell schedule for 2016-2017 –All students = 7 hour day! 7:45 am – 2:39 pm. –49 minute class periods. –Passing Time & Lunch still to be determined.

In’s & Out’s of High School: Keeping your grades up! Homework and Studying — –Studying is not just doing homework! –Expect to study your class material every night, even if you do not have “assigned work.” –There is no “fresh start” after a quarter; grades count for the whole semester. –HIGH SCHOOL IS HARDER THAN 8 TH GRADE! Don’t get behind! –Sports eligibility requires a 2.0 and passing 5 classes! PowerSchool — –Access your grades & attendance anytime. –E-mail your teachers directly with questions/concerns.

Earning Course Credit for Graduation –You must pass a class to earn credit! –You will earn.5 credit for each class hour, each semester when you pass a course. –Grades of “E” or “I” do not grant credit in the course. –When a student completes the required coursework and earns the required number of credits, he/she is eligible for graduation from Huron High School. –Students seeking IB certified Diploma have additional requirements. Grade Point Average — –G.P.A. is the cumulative average to your High School grades. –Huron works on a 4.0 scale. A 4.0 is all A’s. –See your Course Selection Guide. –Always check with Athletic Department for Athletic Eligibility!

School Based Clubs & Activities –NHS, BSU, Anime, Chess, Robotics Club, Interact, Key Club, etc... –Over 70 clubs available at Huron –There is something for everyone! Outside of School –Volunteering & Community Activities –Family/Social time

The next steps... Spring Visit to Huron – (May) Summer Mailing – (Beginning of August) –Information about registration, photo package order forms, etc., is mailed home. Check Huron’s website! Registration Week – (End of August) –Registration dates/time by grade level –Turn in required documentation (emergency cards, computer use agreement, PTSO contribution, etc.). –Pick up your official class schedule, get your student ID/yearbook picture taken, buy a yearbook, meet with club representatives... New Student/9th Grade Orientation – (End of August) –During Registration Week –Visitation to Huron High School including student lead school tours, presentations by school organizations, club/activity fair, and question & discussion time. Meet your graduating class, walk the building with YOUR schedule, visit the club/activity fair, and more!
