GB has the highest IWB penetration rate (73%) in the world. For UK teachers a laptop or IWB are essential tools Positive impact on students’ engagement, motivation, enthusiasm and achievement What Does Research Say about the Use of ICT? Research conducted in 2008 by Durham University showed that the primary school pupils progressed up to 80% faster when taught French with the aid of a set of ICT resources (Word worksheets, IWB PowerPoint presentations, audio files, etc) compared to those who learned using traditional methods. 1000 pupils were split into two groups for the purposes of the research study.
9
Encouragement of positive attitudes towards learning and behaviour (disaffected pupils would pay attention to the IWB although they would rarely look at a book) Positive associations between ICT and test achievements MFL along with math & science benefit more than other areas of curriculum What Does Research Say about the Use of ICT? Research at Surrey University suggests that students learn three times faster using ICT than with pen-and-paper methods. The GCSE results went up by 15% in three years as a result of pupils working regularly in the Language Centre's computer lab.
10
ICT improves presentation of students’ work, supports collaboration, interaction in target language, improves quality of discussion Many writing activities on PC encourage pupils to use new language skills, supporting them with colour, images, sound and video ICT makes students more willing to write and produce longer texts and leads to increased fluency and quality in writing Differentiation in the classroom (individual progress and evaluation) What Does Research Say about the Use of ICT?
11
Digital Video found to: improve students’ pronunciation class dynamics & development of collaborative skills better understanding of film language What Does Research Say about the Use of ICT? Helen Myers at the Ashcombe School: "We feel that the most efficient and effective use of the multimedia rooms is to exploit the fantastic capability to present and reinforce listening and speaking."
