2 Strategic Plan Update Current plan adopted 2009 –updated 2010 Board of Directors review and reassess Final to be adopted in June 2014 Reaffirmed current strategic initiatives Prioritized eight strategic initiatives –“primary” and “secondary”

4 Strategic Plan Update Five Secondary Priorities (in order of priority) –Ensure Financial Sustainability –Utilize Technology to Better Engage and Serve –Grow Membership and Enhance Engagement –Advancing Sustainability –Strengthen International Role

5 Membership 28, 530 at end of March 2014 –97% retention of agencies/81% individuals – 2,189 Canadians (7.67% of total) Maintained membership past 5 years –Economy down; no decline Chapter visits/outreach –Staff, regional directors and officers

6 Utilize Technology to Engage Internal iMIS 20 (AMS) platform on track Great Plains (accounting) updated Telephone/Lync software upgrade –Improved member/customer service Chapter template project

7 Professional Development and Education 23 applications for DCS received (Feb.) 564 enrolled - PWS, PWM, PWE, PWLF Learning Management System (LMS) –Approved and in design phase Two new Institutes (16 approved) –Texas and Utah; OPWA on hold

8 Support/Strengthen Chapters Chapter Outreach ongoing Chapter Template Project –7 chapters utilizing new template -- Arizona, Delaware State, Florida, Illinois, KC Metro, Nebraska and Utah –19 in production –12 in evaluation/ training/reporting complete Council of Chapters/House Refocus

9 Center for Sustainability Chapter connections –15/20 to date; seeking more Connecting with Technical Committees Planning sustainability pledge initiative ISI and Envision™ tool –Over 1800 credentialed as ENV-SP –Three verified projects to date

10 Strengthen International Role IAC Chapter Liaison conference call –12 chapters IFME (International Federation of Municipal Engineers) –Board Meetings –Iceland/Scotland Winter maintenance and asset management Revised partnership with IPWEA Ghana and Baltic agreements considered

11 Future Sustainability FY 14 budget on track Finance Committee –Reserves Policy under review and revision –FY15 budget 2013 Congress Chicago met expectations 2014 Congress Toronto expected to be lower net; planning accordingly

12 Appointments/Vacancy APWA Committee Appointments –President-elect Larry Stevens –2014-2015 underway –12 Canadians interested/169 total (7%) APWA Region V Director Open –Linda Petelka resignation –Appointment by Board for balance of term –Regional Nominating Committee 7 chapters in Region V including Ontario

13 Other Accreditation –90 th Accredited Agency –Coquitlam, BC; Winnipeg, Manitoba –20 under contract; growth and interest –New Manual by August 2014 2016 Congress – Minneapolis selected 2015 in Phoenix 2017 in East –Selection process this Fall

14 Can Spam (CASL) Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) APWA/Chapters in Canada Must Comply! Effective July 1, 2014; 3 year phase in Prohibits emailing for “commercial” purposes, with some exceptions –Members; “business relationship” in past 24 months Webinar/CLL for Chapters in Canada –May 14, 2014
