18 Staying on Track Writtens  Competition Guidelines  Written Manual: ▪ Statement of Assurances (DECA guide page 73) ▪ Competitive Event Checklist (DECA guide page 72) ▪ US rules and US rubric applies!! ▪ Attend briefing session/manual registration for submissions and approval of visuals ▪ Sunday; various times ▪ Ensure presentation materials do not exceed specifications for the event ▪ Ensure everything is initialed by the DECA Inc. authority ▪ Submit 1 copy; keep 1 copy ▪ Submit in DECA Folio ($3; buy today or at ICDC) ▪ Share ideas, don’t plagiarize, originality matters ▪ Changes to written manual can be made up until submission is made (on Sunday in Nashville) ▪ Make the US connection

20 Staying on Track Orals  Individual, Principle and Team Oral Events  KNOW YOUR PERFORMANCE INDICATORS http://www.deca.ca/documents/PI.pdf  google anything that has entrepreneurship, marketing, business, finance  Bring current, relevant news/data into your role-play  Materials handed to the judge must be created using the materials provided during the designated preparation period.  bring your own pencil and four function calculator; no coloured pencils; bring NOTHING else  no use of cell phones; must be in the off position  Evaluations  Judges A – J: you are competing against all the other students WITHIN the same Judge letter group  Mini Awards - silver ribbon medallions; highest oral score in each section and highest 10 individual test scores  Mini Awards - blue ribbon medallions; oral events and test are added and averaged; top 2 scores in section (will then be series finalists)  Grand Awards - weighted average of Test scores and Final Oral; top 10 get called and each receive up to $100 and first, second and third place winners receive possible cash scholarships, and trophies (see DECA Guide for sponsored events)
