2 Early life Born April 20, 1889 in Braunau am Inn, Austria Known as Adi
Had 4 siblings but only he and his sister survived to 18 Father died when Hitler was 13 His mother died of breast cancer Quit school in 1905 to be an artist

3 wwi Joined the Bavarian-German army
Was wounded by a grenade and a gas attack WWI ended when he was in the hospital and it enraged him that Germany quit. Attempted a coup in 1923 and received years in jail but only served 9 months. Wrote Mein Kampf (My Struggle) in prison

4 Taking Power Lost German election in 1932 to Paul Von Hindenburg
In 1933, Hindenburg appointed Hitler chancellor Used propaganda to promote anti-Semitism Annexed Austria in 1938 Took over Poland in 1939 to begin war

5 wwii Began war to achieve Aryan supremacy and lebensraum (Living room) for Germany Began the Final Solution in June, 1941 with the invasion of the Soviet Union Tide of war turned in 1943 at Stalingrad War in Europe ended on May 8, 1945

7 His death Hitler married his mistress Eva Braun on April 29, 1945
They killed themselves on April 30, 1945 Hitler shot himself and Eva took a cyanide capsule Their remains were doused in petrol and burned Hitler's Bunker

8 Odd facts Never took off his coat in public
Psychologist Carl Jung said about his handwriting, “Behind this handwriting I recognize the typical characteristics of a man with essentially feminine instinct.” Voted Time magazine 1938 Man of the Year He modeled his moustache after Charlie Chaplin Refused to shave because, “If it is not the fashion now, it will be later because I wear it!”

9 Odd facts Inspiration for rallying call (Sieg Heil) came from Harvard cheerleaders He lived near a monastery with a swastika as a coat of arms. Swastika was used to represent good luck by Native Americans Adolf Hitler was a vegetarian Two of his girlfriends and a wife committed suicide
