3 The Birth of Evil Born 20 April 1889. Died 30 April 1945.
Adolf Hitler was born in Braunau am Inn. Present day Austria. The fourth child of six.

5 Soldier and Leader Fought for Germany on WWI frontlines.
Came home defeated, angered with Weimar Republic. Joined small group of right-wing extremists. 1920, Hitler is leader of this political group. National Socialist German Workers Party The NAZI Party

Organized his supporters into fighting squads, referred to as “Storm Troopers.” Willing to use force/intimidation. Hitler as a spy against the Weimar Republic.

Written by Hitler in 1923. Basics of Nazi objectives and ideology. German’s belonged to a “Master Race” or Aryans. Light-skinned, blue eyes. One enemy was Jewish people. Germany had not lost WWI, but was betrayed by others.

Table-thumping speeches, highlighted by anti-Semitic remarks, create jobs, and defy Versailles by rearming Germany. Nazi’s and Communists win majority of seats in German Reichstag. (lower house) Opponents thought they could control Hitler….so he is “elected” Chancellor in 1933. Grave Mistake….Adolf Hitler will soon control Germany.

Suspends Civil Rights Destroys Communist and Socialist Parties Decrees that all other political parties are illegal. Only one-party allowed in Germany. “Swastika” adopted on German Flag. Totalitarian Dictator “The Fuhrer” demands obedience.

1st Holy Roman Empire 2nd 1871 under Bismarck Seeks to expand military. Public Works projects. Build Roads, housing, conservation. Uses fear, intimidation, violence to instill control. Unfaithful Nazi’s/citizens killed. Censorship/book burning. Hitler Youth

By 1935, Nazi policies established hatred and discrimination against Judaists. Could not marry non-Jews, attend a German school, practice medicine/law….ect. Many German Judaists fled. (Albert Einstein) November 9, 1938 – Kristallnach “Night of Broken Glass” Cause: Jewish boy wounded a German diplomat in Paris. Hitler would then move Judaists into concentration camps.
