2. Hypothesis If the temperature is high, then the photosynthesis rate will be high as well.

3. Background Information  Photosynthesis is created by sunlight and helps plants produce sugars and energy.  During photosynthesis plants give off oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide.  6CO 2 + 6H 2 O (+ light energy) C 6 H 12 O 6 + 6O 2 is the formula for photosynthesis.  Chlorophyll is the chemical that gives plants their green color.

4. Materials  Light  Swiss Chard  Leaf punch  Water  Beakers  A syringe  Ruler  Thermometer  Baking soda  A heat plate

5. Procedure  1. Take Swiss Chard leaf and use a leaf punch to collect disks.  2. Place Swiss chard plant disks in each different temperature of water( room temp, heated water, and iced water).  3. Let them sit for 5 minutes after recording the temperature of the water.  4. Fill syringe with water and disks, getting rid of all the air bubbles.  5.Wait for the disk to sink.  6. Take out disks and place them in a beaker of baking soda water and time how long it takes to float to the top.  7. Repeat steps 3-6 for the 2 other temperatures.  8. Collect data.

9. Conclusion Based on our results, our hypothesis was supported. The higher the temperature the higher the photosynthesis rate is. We conducted our experiment carefully to be sure we did it right. The 70 degree water had the highest rate of photosynthesis (4.166). The 20 degree water was at 0.016. Last, the 8 degree water was at about 0.012. We received different times for each temperature and noticed when we timed how long it took for the plant disks to rise in the hot water, they rose immediately, unlike the others. The other disks took a while longer to rise. We also did background information so that we could understand the subject of our experiment.
