5. PRODUCT CERTIFICATION Product Certification is the process of certifying that a product conforms with the requirements stipulated in the relevant specifications or standards. Product Certification is carried out through conformity assessment Conformity assessments involves factory inspections, testing, certification, auditing e.t.c. Product certification promotes global competitiveness among domestic manufacturers and encourage continual improvement on the quality of products in line with the statutory obligation of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria. 6. MANCAP Ensures that all manufactured products conform to the relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) prior to sales in the markets or export. The scheme is aimed at protecting genuine manufacturers against unhealthy practices such as production of sub-standard products, faking and counterfeiting as well as unfair competition in trade. MANCAP aims at ensuring manufacturer compliance to standards, consumer satisfaction and confidence, environmental protection, maintenance of a database for locally manufactured goods, prevention of dumping of unsafe/counterfeited products, promotion of quality awareness and wealth creation. SONCAP Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP) is a pre-shipment verification process aimed at ensuring that products imported into Nigeria are in conformity with the applicable Nigerian Industrial Standards or approved equivalents, and technical regulations SONCAP provides a level playing field in terms of quality for both regulated and locally manufactured products in order to prevent unfair competition, facilitates trade, ensures environmental protection, prevents the dumping of substandard goods into the Nigeria market, guards against loss of foreign exchange, impedes loss of life and property etc. PRODUCT: SONCAP Certificate

METROLOGY AND INSTRUMENTATION The Metrology Section undertakes scientific and industrial metrology and renders calibration services in the following areas: temperature, mass, pressure, volume, dimension, electric PRODUCT: Calibration/Verification Certificates Instrument Support Service Center (ISSC) has the responsibility for maintaining Laboratory Equipment for SON and outside customers.

10. LABORATORY SERVICES Provides testing facilities to enable the effective performance of quality assurance activities during the implementation of standards. The tests carried out are mainly third party conformity assessment of products using the relevant Nigerian Industrial Standard or any other applicable International Standard. SON has five (5) principal specialised laboratories situated around the country viz: Food Technology (Accredited to ISO 17025 Standard), Chemical Technology, Electrical/Electronic, Engineering
