College and Career Project Research in 3 Parts

PART ONE-CAREER INTEREST Due: April 8, 2016

Brainstorm List 10 interests you have: List 10 qualities that show your personality: List your top 5 Strengths and 5 Weaknesses Strengths Weaknesses Personal Profile

Brainstorm Pick your top 3 career choices, and list them at the top of each column. Use your electronic devices to research what exactly each job is required to do, how much money an ENTRY LEVEL employee makes, and what certifications or degrees you need to get the job. Finally, take the information you have learned, look back at your personal profile, and decide what “about you” fits that job! Career Choice>> What do they even do? But the money though… I guess school is important… Do I fit in?

Don’t be upset if you don’t know what you want to do after high school!!! Some people pick a career as a kid, and despite seeing many different careers, they still want to do that same job when they finally graduate—but this isn’t MOST people. Many people need the chance to experience a couple of different jobs before they know for sure which one they want. 70% of students change their major at least once. Many change their major 3 times before graduating! It is predicted that this generation will change jobs at least five times before settling into a career.

Career Interest Pick one of the careers from your chart to research further. Begin compiling your research in your journal. (Your written research is a grade!!) You will need to include the following: General description of what someone in this field does High School classes that benefit Post-secondary education recommended? Entry wage Average Wage Experienced wage Employment options (which industries/companies employ people in this career field.) Name at least 3!

PART TW0-POST SECONDARY INTERESTS Due: April 21 th, 2016

Prepare to get schooled Almost every career requires or benefits from some post-secondary education Refer to the career you chose to follow, and what post- secondary education is recommended for that career. You will research TWO post secondary locations to pursue this education. You may wish to create a chart that will allow you to compare and contrast the two.

Post Secondary Interests Pick your favorite post secondary options from the possible places found in your research. Begin compiling your research in your journal. (Your written research is a grade!!) 11 PART THREE-INFOGRAPHIC PRESENTATION Due: May 19 th, 2016

Go to piktochart.com Create an account on piktochart.com You can choose a premade template, but I found it easiest to just start with a blank template. Follow along and experiment with the tools to become familiar with the program. You can expand the page, but then your project will print weird, so try to fit everything onto just one block!! Refer to your handout for all of the information that MUST be included on your infographic.

Piktochart.com Where you can insert shapes and lines as you need to organize your infographic Also insert icons (choose from preloaded) or pictures (you have to upload) Where you can insert text boxes in different styles. Choose Title for major sections—like the career and the school Choose subtitle for sections within each piece, and Body for text that describes. This way, your infographic looks uniform!

Piktochart.com Use “tools” to put in charts. You can pick the kind of chart you need—from pie graphs, line graphs, bar graphs, scatter plots, etc. I used “charts” to create a line graph that shows the salaries part of my career choice.

Piktochart.com The left column, label with the items in your subject. For instance, for salary, I labeled minimum, mid range, and maximum. Across the top, tell the graph what is graphing. For me, salary (so it shows on the bottom) Fill in the information, and the chart will do the rest. On the left hand side, you can click through the different kind of charts to pick the one that best explains your data. Making a graph looks scary, but it is not that bad!!

CONTINUE CREATING YOUR INFOGRAPHIC May 18 th Final infographic must be PRINTED and turned on by May 18 th !!
