7 Grades A total of 700 Points: – 360 Points – 9 Reports (40 Pts. Each) – 40 Points – Research Proposal Outline – 50 Points – Research Proposal Presentation – 150 Points – Final Written Research Proposal – 50 Points – Attendance – 50 Points – Participation Grades will be reported on Canvas, HOWEVER… DO NOT RELY ON CANVAS TO CALCULATE YOUR GRADE!!!!! 7

10 Grades To pass this class you must: – Submit assignments on time – Attend all lab, and participate 10 Grades:A: 93-100%A-: 90-92% B+: 86-89%B: 83-85%B-: 80-82% C+: 76-79%C: 73-75%C-: 70-72% D+: 66-69%D: 63-65%D-: 60-62% F: <60%

11 Attendance Attendance is mandatory Three (3) or more unexcused absences will result in the loss of a full letter grade for for each subsequent absence. – After the 2 nd Absence Tardiness will also impact your attendance grade 11

12 Attendance Excused absences will be allow, with the understanding that students will make up the assignments. Therefore, you should make arrangements BEFORE the lab you will miss. – If possible Failure to make up assignments will result in loss of attendance & participation points – As well as post for the assignment. 12

13 Attendance Please contact me (email/phone/in person), ahead of time, if you are going to class I may ask for supporting evidence – Dr.’s note, etc. Failure to do so will result in an F for that class meeting – Affecting that assignment, participation & attendance 13

14 Assignments Most assignments will be submitted on Canvas All assignments will be listed on Canvas – Please check Canvas for due dates and method of assignment submission. Late assignments will be penalized 10% per day (24h period) 14

16 Technology in the Classroom I allow technology use in lecture & lab – Laptop Computers – Tablets All technology MUST be used on silent mode – Phones should also be on silent Technology is ONLY to be used in class for course related work If you need to take or make a call, step out of the room. 16

17 Technology in the Classroom Failure to abide by these rules will result in: 1.My asking you to put the technology away 2.My asking you to not bring the technology back to class 3.My asking you to leave class Using technology in class for purposes other than those specified is disruptive to those around you and the class in general – Please be respectful 17

18 Academic Honesty Zero (0) tolerance policy on academic dishonesty. This includes: – Plagiarism of published materials – Plagiarism of your classmates work Any assignment in which you are caught cheating/plagiarizing will be given a 0. – & reported to academic affairs 18

19 Course Objectives The goals of this course are: Provide advanced understanding of common biological techniques Including working with common research organisms Ultimately: I want you to have a greater understanding of common biological methods and assays – Making you a better scientist – Making you better able to use these tools 19
