1. Samantha Module Set up

2. Items required Samantha receiver NXT - named with your number(Can be done in the download Firmware section) Robot Battery Computer that can broadcast a network (NOT SCHOOL DESKTOPS ) FAT formatted Flash Drive The current FCS (Field control system) with the Samantha configuration.exe inside it. This can Be acquired in the FTC section of usFirst.org

3. Set up the network On the computer that will be used for connection, set up a network as followed: 1.Go to the Control Panel in the Start Menu 2.Click on the network and internet section 3.In the Network and Internet section, click on Network and Sharing center. 4.Click on the set up a new connection or network 5.When it says choose the network option, scroll down till you see wireless ad hoc network and click on it. 6.For the network name, include your team number EX: Team 5264 7.If you include a password (Which is advised) Make sure that the security type is WEP. 8.Put the network information on your engineering notebook. 9.Make sure you Click SAVE NETWORK!

Configure the Flash Drive For network 1.Install the Field control system on the computer. 2.Plug in the FAT formatted Flash drive. 3.Open the Samantha Field Control System folder. 4.Inside the folder, Run the samoCfg. 5.Inside the secondary network name box (SSID), write the name of the network that was created for the robot network. 6.Make sure the network authentication is set to open 7.If you have a password for the network, set the Data Encryption to WEP. 8.Set the password to “password” for the network 9.Click the Save button. 10.Close the program.

5. Wiring the Samantha Module

6. Configure the Samantha module 1.Connect the Samantha module to the robot. 2.Make sure the module is getting power by turning on the robot. If lights come on, then it is getting power. 3.Turn off the robot again 4.Turn on the network on the computer. 5.Plug the FAT flash drive that has the network configuration. 6.Turn on the robot. 7.The lights should come up in this order: 1.Power light (red) 2.Wifi (white) 3.NXT (blue) 4.After each of these flashes, the Red light should stay lit and the WIFI should be blinking. 8.Leave the Flash Drive connected for a few minutes 9.Turn off the power of the robot and unplug the flash drive. 10.The Samantha Module should be configured, if not the restart the process.

7. Connect to the Samantha module First, make sure the robot and NXT is off. Attach the Samantha to the NXT via USB used to connect the NXT to the computer. Turn on the Network. Turn on the NXT. Turn on the rest of the robot. The Samantha should start to light up in this order 1.Power (RED) 2.WIFI(White) 3.NXT(BLUE) 4.Then back down 5.The power light should stay on, and the NXT should only have a slight flicker. The WIFI should be blinking as well. That indicates that the

8. Running the Field Control System Open the Field Control System.(samoFCS) Configure the controllers the way needed to drive the robot. Click the Choose button inside the current teams box. MAKE SURE THAT THE TEAM THAT YOU CHOOSE YOU ROBOT CONNECTION MATCHES WITH THE TEAM THAT YOUR CONTROLLERS ARE CONNECTED TO!!!!! When the color box under the NXT name text box is green, and says the battery voltages, then you can click the green Start Match. TO CHANGE THE GAME SETTINGS TEMPERARILY: click the Configuration button.
