4 Progress Project Success - Metrics Goal Project: Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) 4 MilestoneTarget Completion % Complete Germany: Hexacopter built. Test plan developed. Testing is not complete 30 June 201650% MIST has the least UAS/UAV experience but is working with three students to complete the quadcopter test plan with monthly calls from Dennis Lott, HINDS Community College Aviation Instructor who integrated the DJI F450 quadcopters 30 June 201630% Jackson State University flight programs have been delayed 30 June 201625% UAS University Projects Increase UAS activity for AESS to grow membership by 5% annually Budget / Resources Fraunhofer, Wachtberg, Germany, Missouri Institute of Science and Technology, Rolla, MO and Jackson State University, Jackson MS. IEEE provides materials, but does not facilitate operation. Funding total = $5k. Objective is to develop a UAV with a test plan and provide test results. Deadline for reports is 30-June-2016. Promote UAS technology for applications that benefit IEEE AESS members 2015: $5,000 All funding has been spent.

5 Unmanned Aircraft Systems Competitions 2016 Established by the Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International, the AUVSI Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides students with hands-on robotics activities designed to fuel and sustain their interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Since the competitions began in 1991, more than $1.4 million has been awarded in prize money. National SeaPerch Challenge May 20-22, 2016 Louisiana State University Baton Rouge, Louisiana http://www.seaperch.org/seaperch_challenge or www.seaperch.org ttp://www.seaperch.org/seaperch_challengewww.seaperch.org Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) June 3-6, 2016 Oakland University Rochester, MI www.auvsifoundation.org/igvc International Aerial Robotics Competition (IARC) August 2016 Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta GA, USA and Beijing/Miyun, China www.aerialroboticscompetition.org www.aerialroboticscompetition.org

6 Unmanned Aircraft Systems: 2016 Plans TaskCompletionFunding Complete UAS Project (Ogan)June 2016$0 Application project – Drone photography: 2 teams (Germany, U.S.). Engage local community. Create an aerial photography application for the UAV to study technologies, e.g. GPS-based photography, tracking systems, and other surveillance modes (Socci) Build/Demo: December 2016 Application Report: June 2017 $3,000 for U.S. unit. Germany will use W. Sass equipment Engage with CTAP to provide UAV policy support. (Phil Hall is current CTAP chair.) (Hall) Ongoing$1,000 for one meeting in Wash. D.C. Project team participation at International Aerial Robotics Competition (IARC) (Ogan) http://www.aerialroboticscompetition.org/ August 2016$0 (pending funding from MIST or JSU) IEEE representation at InterDrone Commercial Drone Conference (http://www.interdrone.com/) (Socci)http://www.interdrone.com/ September 2016$1500 Organize a UAV policy event that engages industry (consortium, conference, etc.) (Hall) TBD 2017$0 (pending event strategy) Total funding requested (+10% reserve)2016$6,050

7 Next Steps and Challenges Manage remaining efforts of 2015 plan Secure funding to solidify 2016 plan Assign committee members as task leads Network with community to prepare for industry engagement
