1. SNOWBALL EXPRESS EXCURSION AUCKLAND TO NATIONAL PARK & OHAKUNE SATURDAY 23 JULY 2016 Don’t be slow head for the snow. Join the Railway Enthusiasts Society (Inc) on the Snowball Express for a magic midwinter’s day excursion to the central North Island. Travel to the mountains in style and comfort in Kiwi Rails Silver Fern Railcar. Sit back and relax and let the train take the strain as you ride the fast lane to National Park and Ohakune. Bring yourself and friends on the best fun day excursion, tour the terrain and breathe the fresh mountain air you choose one of the interesting tours below. Option 1: CHATEAU SLENDOUR: On arrival at National Park we transfer to a bus for a short drive to the Chateau Tongariro for a Buffet Lunch. After Lunch we board our bus for a short ride up to Whakapapa Ski Fields - time is yours explore and play in the snow. Option 2: MUSKETS AND MILITARIA: On arrival at Ohakune we transfer to a bus for a short drive to Waiouru to visit the National Army Museum with its fine displays of New Zealand’s military history. After visiting the museum the bus will transfer you back to Ohakune. Option 3: DAY TRIPPERS DELIGHT: Discover the delights of the mountain town of Ohakune. Time is yours to explore the old coach road, Ohakune railway museum or the town as you please.
