2. Macbeth- The Plot! A.Lady Macbeth starts to sleepwalk and re-enacts King Duncan’s murder. She is driven mad with guilt and kills herself. B.Macbeth and Banquo meet three witches who predict that Macbeth will be made Thane of Cawdor and then King. The first prediction quickly comes true. They also predict that Banquo’s children will be Kings one day. C.Macduff fights Macbeth and tells him that he was born by caesarean section. Macbeth despairs but fights on and is killed. D.When King Duncan’s body is found his sons suspect murder and flee to England. Banquo is suspicious of Macbeth too, but doesn’t say anything. E.Macbeth realizes that to secure his position he needs to kill his friend Banquo and his son. After the murders have been committed he is haunted by Banquo’s ghost at a banquet. F.Macbeth returns to the witches and is given three more predictions: 1. To beware Macduff. 2. That no man born of a woman will harm him. 3. That he’ll be safe until Birnham wood comes to Dunsinane Castle. This appears to make him invincible. G.Macbeth fights loyally, alongside his friend Banquo, to defend King Duncan’s throne from his enemies. H.Because of the witches’ warnings, Macbeth has Macduff’s wife and children murdered while he is with the King’s sons in England. I.The King’s sons and Macduff arrive at Macbeth’s castle under the cover of branches cut from Birnham wood. J.Macbeth is confused about the predictions but Lady Macbeth persuades him to kill King Duncan. He does so, but seems upset and disturbed afterwards.
