1 I’M OUT OF HERE! A game to practice financial literacy concepts TEKS addressed: K.9(A) identify ways to earn income K.9(B) differentiate between money received as income and money received as gifts K.9(D) distinguish between wants and needs and identify income as a source to meet one’s wants and needs 1.9(A) define money earned as income 1.9(B) identify income as a means of obtaining goods and services, often times making choice between wants and needs 1.9(C) distinguish between spending and saving (cards 25-36) Directions: Cards are shuffled and passed out equally among 2, 3 or 4 players. Players may look at their cards but do not show to others. Play begins by having the person with the birthday closest to today going first. The player selects any card and puts it face up in the center of the group. The player must state whether the card illustrates earning income receiving income as a gift a want a need spending (1 st grade only) saving (1 st grade only) The other players (in clockwise fashion) play one of their cards that matches the category. Players should agree on the category. If a Player does not have a card in that category, the player says “Pass.” After all players have had one turn to put a card down, the second player begins a new round by placing a card face up in the center and stating the category. Other players play again play a card in the category if they have a card in the category and “pass” if they do not. Play continues with a different person starting the round each time. The first person who discards all his/her cards declares, “I’m out of here!” and is the winner. Play may continue, if desired, until only one player is left.
