6 Create an EndNote Library Open EndNote program Go to toolbar: File/New Name your EndNote Library and save it somewhere on your hard drive or network

7 Your New Library Toolbar across the top References List panel Tabs panel Groups panel Search panel

8 Add References from Online Search Select Integrated Library/Online search button from toolbar (globe with books) In groups pane at left, select online search database Sample search: Select Web of Science Enter “monk seal” in title box Select “search” List of titles will appear in results list Highlight references to keep Menu/Reference/Copy to MyEndNote Library

9 Direct Export of Records to EndNote Example: Go to Science Direct: http://www.elsevier.comhttp://www.elsevier.com Select advanced search (upper right hand corner) In search box type “marine renewable energy” Select “abstract/keywords/title” in dropdown box Deselect Books Select Search Look at results page Select 3 or 4 articles by clicking check boxes Select Export citations Select Citations and Abstracts Select Export Dialog box should state “Open with ResearchSoft Direct Export Helper” Click “OK” Records will automatically download into your EndNote Library EndnoteHelp/direct export providers

10 Importing PDFs Download PDFs from an online database or journal Select Import from the File menu. Select File to import a single PDF, or Folder to import a folder containing PDFs. Click the Choose button to select the file or folder to import. PDF must be selected as the Import Option. Click on the Import button to begin the import Each reference now has paperclip next to it

11 Find Full Text EndNote’s Find Full Text feature will search the Internet, download, and attach full-text PDFs to selected references. Select (highlight) the references you want to find the PDF for. Select Find Full Text from the References menu, then Find Full Text again at the right. Read the copyright notice and click the OK button to acknowledge the usage notice. A paperclip will appear next to found pdfs

13 Manually Entering a Reference Select New Reference from the References menu to create a new record Select the reference type from the pull-down Reference Type list at the top of the empty record. You do not need to enter data in every field. Enter the data that you require for your bibliography or that you wish to track.
