1 Incoming Sophomore Course Scheduling Class of 2019 February 9, 2016

2 Goals Students will know how to use the Course Planning Guide. Students will know the difference between high school and college requirements. Students will know where to find help for making next year’s course requests. Students will know the timeline and method for making course requests. Write your name on your course planning guide and the insert. Annotate your course planning guide throughout this presentation.

3 Graduation Requirements & College Admission Recommendations Refer to the white Course Planning Guide page 1 for Geneseo High School Graduation Requirements Refer to page 2 for course offerings. Refer to page 4 for college admission recommendations. Check the “Graduation Requirements” tab in your Skyward Access Account

4 Selecting Electives Classes with term “S12” meet either semester Classes with term “S1” meet first semester Classes with term “S2” meet second semester Be sure to select both semesters of a year long course (i.e. English, Math, Science, foreign language, band, choir). Your course planning guide indicates whether a course meets for a semester or year long. Do not select a course with 9 as the second number without teacher permission.

5 Required Classes for Sophomores 2 nd year of English 2 nd year of Math 2 nd year of Science 1 st and 2 nd semester of US History 1 st and 2 nd Semester of PE (replace 1 st semester waiver with another class) 2 additional classes each semester (Study Hall is not considered a class) If you failed a graduation requirement, remember to add that class in your schedule.

6 Blended Learning Non-traditional, computer based learning outside the traditional classroom Student ownership of learning French, Mandarin Chinese, German, Latin, Geography & World Cultures

7 Blended Learning (con’t) High School Credit earned, but no GPA impact Cost: $175 per course per semester Having an open period for blended learning is not required during the traditional school day.

8 Behind the Wheel Behind the Wheel will be scheduled later this spring In order to schedule BTW, it may require flexibility in your schedule to move a class(es) to make the BTW fit.

9 Marching Band Waiver Marching Band/PE Waiver information and the required form are available on the counseling webpage. The form must be signed and returned to the guidance office on Tuesday, February 16. Sophomores must enroll in marching band to request a PE waiver.

10 Study Hall You may take one or two semesters of study hall. –First semester study hall. –Second semester study hall. You may seek additional academic assistance from your teachers during study hall. There is no guarantee your study hall will be scheduled during 7 th period.

12 February 14 due date Sophomore Class Meeting – 2/9/16 - ASAP Skyward will open on Thursday, February 11 at 7 pm. Complete your schedule online before midnight February 14. Return appropriate forms (i.e. PE Waiver,) to the counseling office Tuesday, February 16, 2016. Confirm your schedule with your parent(s) or guardian(s) before you submit!!!
