VALACHOVIČ Dominik Random quotation: „All roads lead to Edinburgh!“

 The most common source of news is still TV, because most of senior citizens don‘t use the Internet.  This is probably the main reason, why the Internet is still in second place.  Another, no less important, sources are press and radio.

 Information from TV, press or radio could be easily manipulated, because there can always be some influential people in its background, who want to advance their personal interests (political or other), therefore the most trustworthy medium is the Internet, because there are countless sites, which provide lots of different information from different points of view so one can make his opinion based on more than just one strict statement, that TV or radio serves.

 The major role of the media should definitely be providing information to the general public.  In spite of this fact, there are also some things pointing out the differences between what the media are supposed to do and what they are actually doing.  The news is always filled with murders, diseases and disasters and in addition they‘re trying to make it look as dramatic as possible, instead of just giving us the information.

 The most famous newspapers in the UK are The Sun, The Daily Mail, The Daily Mirror and Metro (all of them have more than 3 millions of readers).  The most famous newspapers in the USA are The New York Times, Daily News and Washington Post.  The most famous TV station in the UK is BBC.  The most famous TV station in the USA is CNN.

 These days everyone has a TV at home. Practically the only exception is those who are against watching it, because there aren‘t many people who cannot afford to have a TV.  TV can be considered as the easiest source of news, because all you have to do is switch it on and then just sit a watch it.  BBC example, CNN example, BBC vs CNN. 8  In the Czech republic we have of course some serious newscasts, but also some less serious or rather derisory ones. Sometimes what TV Nova broadcasts are really curious. For example, the results of their various physical experiments are very surprising. I was always wondering what happens with water when it‘s left outside when the temperature is below 0°C  Edited version of TV Nova news Edited version of TV Nova news

 It‘s the most objective source of news.  There are lots of politically neutral sites.  It‘s almost impossible to consor the Internet.  You can find here information, which other media concealed for any reason as well as information which are completely contradictory to those which were represented by TV, radio or newspapers and it‘s up to you who you trust.

 In the last years, there has been a huge decrease in number of people who read classic newspapers.  Although it‘s mostly young people who prefer reading news on the Internet, we can also find a few really old readers.  In survey, whole 14% of people above 74 years old stated that the Internet is their main source of information.

 It‘s a really comfortable source of news, just like the TV. Again, all you have to do is turn it on and then you can just listen to whatever the reporter says.  Radio really comes in handy when you also have to concentrate on some other task, which can be for example driving a car, what is in fact the most common cause for listening to it.

 Advertising is simply typical for today‘s World.  Commercials are appearing in all different kinds of media as well as anywhere else.  As time passes, we can see more and more of them and they are attacking our brains from all possible directions.  Compilation of funny/interesting commercials. Compilation of funny/interesting commercials.

 The point of all commercials is the same and it‘s, of course, trying to make you buy some product or use some services.  The basic question is: „Would you buy that product anyway, if you really needed it?“  The answer would be probably positive, so what‘s the purpose of advertising?  It‘s very simple. Commercials set themselves a goal to force you to buy things you don‘t need so desperately or even things you don‘t need at all.

 One of the biggest problems of advertisements is that products are always set forth in the best possible light, what can obviously lead to misunderstandings and overestimated expectations of potential customers.  Another serious problem concerns commercials aimed at children. It‘s really unethical, because they don‘t realise they‘re being manipulated, so it‘s very easy to influence them.

 It‘s one of the oldest forms of communication.  They were primarily used by Native Americans for communication, but also by Aborigines when they were invading a new territory.  Even at present the smoke signals are kind of being included when a new pope is being elected. The colour of smoke that comes from the chimney after each vote indicates, if it was successful or not.

 If a pigeon is transported in a cage and then released, it will return to its home with an attached message for his owner.

 A really long ago when there was no post yet, people had to send some bearer to deliver their messages.  As the time was passing, sooner or later, the brilliant idea of post invention saw the daylight for the first time. It was a revolution. Postmen were delivering people‘s letters and later there was even the possibility to send messages over telegraph.

 Two most used means of communication are (cell)phones and the Internet.  The post is also in operation, but it‘s no more being used in the same way like it was some decades ago. These days it mostly dispatches packages, such as goods from Internet shops, rather than letters. Most of the letters, which are sent have an official nature.

 It has become perfectly normal that even the most young children have their own cellphones.  Today every single phone is like a small computer, camera, gaming console, music and video player etc.  The technology of phones has come so far, that it mostly divides people instead of connecting them. „Why would I talk with other people at the bus stop, when I can play some kick-ass game on my iPhone, right?“

 It‘s a really advantageous way of communication, because it‘s free of charge. You can connect with anybody from the whole world without having to pay anything.  Most common is communicating by email or various chat services, which are mostly part of social networks such as facebook.  Disadvantage of internet communication is that if you make contact with a stranger you can never reliably tell who‘s on the other side.
